Granddaughter, Ivy, decked out and ready for the first day of Maine's partridge season

September 26, 2021 - Sunday morning
49 degrees/rain/calm winds
Pentoga Road

I can't believe that we went to Marquette yesterday and I didn't take any pictures.

Seems I forgot the flash card for my camera.

Our first stop on Saturday morning was in the tiny village of Michigamme, Mi, an hour to our north. It's a beautiful place located on the west shore of Lake Michigamme and has a history rich in logging combined with a bit of industry from long ago.

We toured a wonderful little museum that displayed the evolution of the town, including a large display from when the movie Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart, Lee Remick, Ben Gazara, and George C. Scott, was filmed there in 1959.

Leaving Michigamme, we arrived in Marquette half an hour later. Our first stop was at Menard's where we found a doorknob for the (soon to be) new back door. It's a combination/key type thing and is already keyed with the other two doors in our home.

Miss Jody and Sargie were later dropped off in front of TJ Maxx where they found innumerable treasures, but purchased few. Meanwhile, Garry and I toured the new Harbor Freight store where we too discovered a few small items that we didn't even know we needed.

So the day went. We toured the shores of Lake Superior from the warmth of the car and eventually, found ourselves at a small Italian restaurant for supper. It was almost 8 o'clock last night before we pulled into the drive.

Andy sent a couple of pictures and a video of Ivy on the first day of partridge season in Maine. He said the temperatures were way above normal, in the 80's, and combined with a bit of rain, made for less than ideal hunting conditions. Still, they bagged one.

The video below shows Ivy, in kindergarten, cleaning her first bird the same way my four sons were taught long ago. Needless to say, Grandpa couldn't be prouder. It's good to know that someone is passing down the old ways, knowledge that is easily lost through the generations.

I think we're going to install the new back door later today. It's presently raining, but that's to end by mid morning. The temperature's to peak around 70 degrees.

Rain or no rain, it's time to find the headlamp and go for my walk. I'd like to be back home before everyone rises for the day.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
