Cheeks

April 10, 2021 - Saturday morning
42 degrees/cloudy/calm winds
Pentoga Road

Seems kind of quiet around here this morning without the pleasant chaos that a baby can wreak. Sargie met Mel halfway to Iron Mountain yesterday morning and returned with a little bundle of baby girl.

Having been an educator and professor in my former life, I'm used to making scientific observations about the world around me. Yesterday was no exception.

A good baby, my youngest granddaughter spends her days in one of four defined zones.

Eating

Sleeping

Hanging out - Chillin'

Screaming

I spent much of the day in the shop making Cheeks' sign that has to be finished before her baptism on the 18th. I have a week, something that's very doable if I can keep my daily activities between the lines.

First thing yesterday was to make a piece of ship lap board into a circle. I used a previously purchased laminated round as a pattern.

I almost panicked when, thinking there was only one piece of shiplap in the red shed, I found it was this much too short.

But in the end, I went through the scrap wood box and found just enough to finish the backer board with complete pieces.

Much of yesterday was spent making the first of several flowers using hot glue, poster board, and a simple hardwood rod.

It takes forever to make these flowers from scratch, even longer will be spent painting and outlining each petal. Still, it's one of my favorite things to do, especially on a foggy, damp, morning, while sitting in my cozy, warm, shop, listening to music.

I walked twice yesterday, once early in the morning and again in the afternoon when Yooper Brother Mark could shake free from the plant to put a few miles under his feet.

Hambone, Mel, Macrea, and Sadie, arrived late in the afternoon to take Cheeks home. We had a good visit before they departed for Iron Mountain.

Yooper Brother Mark will be out soon for our usual Saturday morning walk. I think I'll get the lawn sweeper out of storage as we need to pick up the millions of pine cones that fell this past winter. There's some transplanting to be done in the garden house, fertilizer to be spread on the lawn, and a few more flowers to make in the shop.

The way the grass is turning green and beginning to grow, Sargie will be riding high atop her mower sooner rather than later.

Looks to be a busy one ahead.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Grandma Sargie plumb wore that little girl out
