The job of raking under the large spruce trees is done for another year.

April 11, 2021 - Sunday morning
45 degrees/rainy/calm winds
Pentoga Road

It was a nice, easy, rain that fell during the night, enough to keep me in bed later than usual this morning. Rainfall totals for this past week, including last night, add up to around an inch and a half. After a dry start to the spring, we'll gladly take it.

I didn't get to the shop yesterday. In fact, I didn't even walk through the door.

Yooper Brother Mark was out bright and early for our Saturday morning walk. Neighbor Roy came along and the three of us had a good middle-of-Pentoga-Road chat catching up on life.

Sargie and I later made a quick jaunt to town before stopping at our area lake.

After a long winter, it was nice to see open water rather than ice.

Several days of rainy weather were in the forecast. With that in mind, Sargie said she'd pull the lawn sweeper over the yard. I'd follow, applying Weed n Feed.

My bride asked if I'd mind raking the leaves from the bushes surrounding the back deck.

Sure. Why not? I could do that before beginning work in the shop. Sargie picked up a rake and headed to the flower bed in front of the house.

We met midway where Sargie suggested we rake the year's accumulation of needles and sticks from under the large spruce trees in front.

I could see my shop time fading away. After all, the yard needed to be cleaned at some point and with rain forecast and the grass quickly greening and growing, it appeared to be the perfect time.

Sure, why not?

We quickly fell into a rhythm of raking, gathering, and carting load after load of needles, sticks, and other debris, a hundred yards away to the edge of the woods.

While I was dumping needles, Sargie continued to rake everything into the next pile, ready to be loaded.

We were about all done in when Sparky came along with Neighbor Dean in tow. Both gave us a very welcome break.

I'd planned on being the first into the pond this spring, but Sparky beat me to it. Walking daily, the garden pond is a regular cooling off place for the friendly golden lab.

It was late afternoon before Sargie began pulling the sweeper around the yard.

I followed behind pushing the applicator.

After showers and a quick bite to eat, there were two tired kids who fell into bed last night on Pentoga Road.

It's raining and chilly outside. I'm going for a quick walk before heading to the shop. Nothing, I repeat NOTHING, can stand in my way. Cheeks' sign has to be finished by a week from today.

Well, that is, unless Sargie wants to take a Sunday afternoon ride. Now that would be tempting.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
