January 22, 2020 - Wednesday morning
21 degrees/freezing rain/calm winds
Pentoga Road
It was barely above zero yesterday morning and today, it's raining. Naturally, the water immediately turns to ice.
I about broke my neck a bit ago. This morning's kindling was left out in the wheelbarrow last night (too lazy to carry it in the house) and stepping out to retrieve an armful, my feet hit the icy deck and went out from under me. The wood got a bit damp, but I managed to rekindle the fire in the wood stove none the less.
As for me, the only thing bruised was my ever delicate ego.
Speaking of delicate ego, I once again found myself in the dentist's chair Tuesday morning for my semi annual cleaning.
I'm happy to report that nary a cavity was found and Eric the Dentist even filled the hole with a permanent filling where the root canal was recently done. Due to insurance limitations, I'll wait until next year to get a permanent crown.
I want so badly to launch into a diatribe about how the previous administration screwed up the health insurance coverage for many of us who worked and actually earned affordable care, but since this isn't a political blog, I'll keep my fingers still.
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to read between the lines.
I enjoyed a wonderful seven mile walk yesterday. The temperature was in the twenties and the sun was bright, but holy cow, the wind was blowing a gale.
The rest of the day was spent either looking at seed catalogues or booking tickets for this spring's first official retirement ramble to see Mississippi Brother Garry and Miss Jody in March. We'll interrupt our visit for a few days to fly from Laurel, MS, to southern Texas to meet Yooper Brother Mark and Sheri, who have invited us to enjoy their time share with them for a few days. Afterwards, we'll fly back to Laurel, and eventually wind our way back home.
Speaking of Garry, the boy sent a beautiful picture of this morning's southern sunrise.

It seems strange to be posting pictures without snow this time of the year. Ah, another six weeks and I'll be right there snapping pictures alongside my big brother.
Sargie said she had a good day at work yesterday. The girl will officially be retired after working a week from tomorrow.
It's time to end and get this uploaded. We were thinking of going to Green Bay today for household supplies, but with freezing rain dribbling down, we'll stay home. I'm going to try to go for a walk then head to the shop.

The county trucks were out yesterday pushing the snowbanks further away from the road. |
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

This deer, a fawn, really, had to have been born last fall. So far, he's escaped the coyotes and wolves. |
