Wednesday was yet another clean-the-snow-off-the-roof day
January 23, 2020 - Thursday morning
30 degrees/snow/calm winds
Pentoga Road

It's another exercise in five minute blog writing this morning as I slept right up to the alarm.

That darn Sargie. Now that she's one week away from retirement, the girl is working my fingers to the bone.

Okay, that's a lie, but it sounded plausible, didn't it?

No?

Never mind.

It's okay that this is short this morning as there are only so many ways to describe removing snow and several inches of heavy ice from the roof over the living room.

I went for my walk to Pentoga Wednesday morning before deciding to bite the bullet and start moving snow. What alarmed me most was the solid ice that stuck out a foot or more from the overhang.

It appears during the last thaw, the snow had begun to melt with the water running underneath. The whole thing started sliding off the roof then with a sudden drop in temperatures, had frozen solid in midair.

The snow was easy to remove. The stubborn heavy ice was a different story. It required performing a balancing act on the top rungs of the ladder and some heavy pounding. At this point, most the frozen water is gone and all that remains is the rest of the light weight snow from the upper part of the roof.

Last night was a quiet one. Sargie did her thing while I began perusing the seed catalogues and turning my thoughts towards what to plant in the garden this spring. I'm attempting to get into gardening shape as I told Mississippi Brother Garry I'd help plant his when we're visiting in March.

Remember, half the fun of going is getting there.

Sargie works today and counting down. My girl will officially be retired a week from today at 4:30 PM, but then, who's counting?

I'm going for a five mile hike this morning then return home and begin clearing the drive and deck of new snow. I have no idea how much there is, but it's fallen steadily since late yesterday afternoon.

Time to get breakfast on the table and see Sargie off to work.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

It appears the Peppermint Bark Fairy left us a wonderful present in the mailbox yesterday before returning to Marquette.
Thanks Jambo!!
