Labor Day
61 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road
Boom! The excitement's over and the annual Mighty Milligan Labor Day Celebration has come and gone for another year.
Despite the dire predictions of storms and rain, prayers were answered as Baby Jesus smiled down upon us and the weather was almost perfect. Rain fell a few miles to the west and there were showers to the east, but on Pentoga Road, the sun shown brightly most the day with a nice breeze.
Sargie and I were up early Sunday morning putting the final touches on the day ahead. She concentrated on the back patio and front porch.
I spent time in the kitchen preparing the pork loin to smoke and later, making hamburgers to grill.
After a quick trip to town for bagged ice, it was time to rock and roll.
Aubrey and Sasha found the blueberries. I'd purposely left some on the bushes for easy grazing. |
Baby Lincoln |
Sasha was absolutely fascinated with the sunflowers, so I plucked a head for her to take home. I think she plans to save a few seeds to plant and roast the rest. |
Part of the family, Yooper Brother Mark, Sheri, Jerad, and Jenna, spent the afternoon with us. |
Since the smoker was still hot, I tried something new, smoking hamburgers. They were pronounced absolutely delicious. |
Sargie even got some snuggle time with Lincoln |
Grady volunteered to help feed the goldfish |
The celebration began breaking up late in the afternoon. Mel, Macrea, and Hambone, stayed the night and before long, we were in the middle of a cutthroat game of Monopoly that lasted past my bedtime.
I'm not sure what time everyone went to bed. I was first and Sargie made a bed up for Grady on the floor in our bedroom then went back downstairs. I remember Hambone crawling into bed with me, reading a book together, then telling him goodnight as he made his way to his bed.
I'm not sure what we'll do today. I think I'll run to town first thing to buy some eggs to make omelets for breakfast. Other than that, the sky's the limit.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
It appears as though Hambone never made it to his bed after story time. Someway or the other, Grady morphed into Grandma Sargie during the night. It must be magic! By the way, who took this picture? |
