Good Morning Miss Deer
September 9, 2018 - Sunday morning
37 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

As mad as I become trying to prevent the deer from making our yard their cafeteria, there's something calming to be greeted first thing in the morning by a wide-eyed doe looking back at me.

I know darn well that they'll move into the yard in another few weeks and the yearly battle to save the shrubbery and bushes will begin. I have a solar powered ultrasonic strobe light armed with a motion detector to protect the greenery in the front yard. So far, it's working. I should probably purchase another to protect the back. Why not get two or three or a dozen? It's just money and everyone knows it grows on trees.

I rode back to Iron Mountain Saturday morning with Sargie. Since we were a bit early, we swung by the recycle center to get rid of last months newspapers.

Sargie's car and a couple of jugs were filled with gas before I kissed her goodbye and came back home.

The rest of the day was spent in the shop, mostly watching turning (lathe) videos on the internet. I can't believe the talent some people have. What many turn can only be described as true works of art. I'd like to be like them someday when I grow up.

Sargie was home early and we drove to town to take advantage of a one day sale at our local grocers. Taking the long way home, we enjoyed the early fall weather and deep blue skies accompanied by crisp temperatures.

This ancient tree, half dead and growing in an abandoned farmstead, might be on it's last legs, but it still has an abundance of huge, red, apples.
I hobbled around the garden last night, fed the goldfish, and began thinking about preparing their winter home, a large fifty gallon tote kept in the basement.

I hope it will be big enough. It worked well last winter, but all the fish have doubled or even tripled in size over the summer months. I might have to expand to two totes.

Sargie works today from noon to five. No doubt, I'll watch a football game or two. Hopefully, the political nonsense will be finished and I can settle in for a season of Packers football. Green Bay plays the Bears this evening.

I think I'll close and head to the shop. My goal this morning is to put what I learned yesterday while watching turning videos to good use. Christmas is around the corner and it's never too early to begin making presents.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

One of the dozen or more banana squash growing in the garden. This is a smaller one. Several weigh more than fifty pounds each.
