.... and in this corner, Captain Yooper Brother Mark
September 16, 2018 - Sunday evening

Pentoga Road

Once again, I'm writing this evening as Neighbor Mike and I are planning to leave at 6 in the morning to go fishing. We want to be on the water shortly after daybreak.

Today was a mixed bag of fun. I was in the shop fairly early trying different lathe techniques. Today's experiment involved making an offset spindle.

As with much of what I initially try, it ended up in the wood box to be burned this winter.

I made my way to Neighbor Mike's to help supervise his son, Dr. Paul, in picking hops, a major ingredient in making beer.

Mike planted a couple of vines a few years ago and both are growing up either the barn or the garage.

Paul found all the hops he needed and more.

Yooper Brother Mark called and asked if we wanted to spend the afternoon on their pontoon boat. He didn't have to ask twice.

We spent the entire afternoon cruising the ten-mile length of a nearby lake.

The Packers and Vikings were locked in a close game. My son, Andy, in northern Maine, and my good friend, John, who was in Boise, Idaho, kept us apprised of the big plays via texting. Radio reception was iffy at best.

We talked, we cheered, and oh yes, we stopped and anchored so Mark and I could swim.

The crystal clear water was definitely refreshing.

Back on shore and with the pontoon boat loaded onto the trailer, we finished listening to the ballgame that ended in a tie.

I'm going through all kinds of antics trying to get some sort of reception.
After a late afternoon drive, Sargie and I settled in for a quiet evening. My bride is off tomorrow and Mike and I are planning on being home before mid morning.

I need to build a form in which to pour a cement pad for the outdoor wood furnace this week. It will be used to heat the shop this winter. Maybe I'll get started on that tomorrow.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

I can't blame those who wish they had a farmer's tan and finely sculpted body, especially the muscular legs, like mine.
