Jerad was a winner in Saturday night's Iron Country Demolition Derby!

Congratulations to Jerad for last night's victory. The next stop? Why, the NASCAR circuit of course!

I wasn't at the fairgrounds to cheer my little buddy onto victory. Yesterday wasn't a red letter day for me.

I was halfway through Saturday morning's walk when my left foot began to throb. The closer to home I hiked, the more it hurt. The last quarter mile was more of a one legged hop than a walk.

I have heel spurs, calcium deposits, on both feet. The right one isn't too painful, thanks to the use of prescribed orthotics. The left's not nearly as happy. An appointment was made a couple of weeks ago to revisit the podiatrist, but the soonest I can see her is the first week of September.

To make matters worse, my insides decided to join my left foot in making me purely miserable. The only thing I'll say regarding that subject is that I didn't stray to far from the porceilin throne all day. Whatever I drank or ate didn't hang around for long.

By mid afternoon, I began entertaining thoughts of going to the emergency room. Even after taking two pain relievers and elevating the foot, it continued to throb. Having to hobble to the bathroom made it worse. I was miserable.

Simply put, I wanted my mommy.

In a last act of desperation, I shoved my foot in a gallon freezer bag filled with ice and zipped it shut around my ankle. I quickly learned how hard it can be to hop, one legged, to the bathroom while dragging a block of ice behind.

Though the results were delayed by a couple of hours, the pain slowly subsided. By the time Sargie arrived home late in the evening, I was able to gimp around the house. Just as importantly, my insides decided to cooperate.

I slept like a rock last night and though still throbbing, the foot is better. So far, the cookie I ate to accompany my morning medication is hanging around inside my belly, so it appears that bug has decided to move along. Simply put, I think I'll live. No need to put me down... yet.

Sargie's off today and I have no idea what's on our agenda. I'm fairly certain my usual five-mile morning stroll is off the table, so I'll head to the shop after I ice the foot again. The local Lutheran Church has a wonderful service broadcast over our local radio station that I enjoy. Baby Jesus and I will spend an hour together.

It's time to fill that freezer bag full of ice and stick my foot inside. Better there than where it normally resides, in my mouth.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
