Luke sent the above picture yesterday. He and the family have been on vacation for the past two weeks in the mountains of Maine.

Not a lot to report from Pentoga Road. These are the hot and dry dog days of summer. The garden continues to do well, but I'm drip irrigating daily to keep everything growing.

Cosmos flowers peeking through the broccoli
Many of the flowers in the garden sprouted from the seeds of last year's blooms that overwintered in the ground. Seems cosmos flower seeds remain viable and are liable to sprout anywhere. I don't mind a bit as they give the garden more color, especially this time of year.

The left foot is much better, although I'm still limping around the place. At least I'm able to walk which is more than I can say for last Friday. I won't be doing any long distance hikes until I see the podiatrist the first week of September.

I'm grateful the ailment that plagued my intestinal tract on Saturday has left the building. I'll say this, it wasn't a very pleasant weekend for the old professor in the health department. Thankfully, all that's in the past.

We made our way over to Hambone's house Sunday afternoon and found him playing in the sprinkler.

Mel and Macrea are trying to do some late summer spiffying up of their house and yard and were busy with projects. While I mostly sat in the shade on the front step, Sargie donned a pair of gloves and pitched in to help.

We arrived back on Pentoga Road later in the afternoon. Initially, we were going to go fishing, but after visiting the boat ramp and seeing all the boats already on the lake, we decided to come on home and call it a day.

Last night was a mellow one for me. Sargie did some laundry and watered her flowers. I felt pretty worthless with this gimpy foot. I don't do "mellow" too well, especially when Sargie's waiting on me.

My bride is back to work this morning, but is off tomorrow. I'm going to steal her riding mower and cut the grass today. I've got to do more than sit around on my backside. Admittedly, I've been looking at the bicycle hanging from the rafters in the barn. There's more than one way to skin a cat... or in my case, get some exercise.

Oops, it's time to fix breakfast and pack Sargie's lunch.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
