15 degrees/partly cloudy/windy
Pentoga Road
Mother Nature didn't transition gracefully from fall to winter this year. Thirty-six hours ago, the thermometer registered 55 degrees with nary a breeze to be felt. Currently, it's forty degrees colder and the winds are howling. At least no one has complained of being bitten by any mosquitoes, something we couldn't claim last summer.
After a very cold and windy walk Tuesday morning, I arrived home to sit by the wood stove and enjoy a good cup of coffee. As I've grown older, I've discovered that cold and wintry days can be enjoyed equally in the house as well as outside. This morning's cup of coffee was one of the best I've ever sipped and it had nothing to do with the flavor.
Tuesday was spent working on the snow lady. I decided she needed arms which meant two pieces of 2x2 milled pine had to be turned round then each carved to fit the body.
After, holes were drilled and finally, glue and brads were used to permanently attach the arms to the body.
The entire afternoon was spend sanding and painting Miss Snow Lady. She still needs touching up in a few places and her head has yet to be permanently attached. After, a protective coating will be applied and the girl will be ready for Christmas.
Next comes the boy snowman. I plan to make him in the same manner.
Sargie was home early last night and we took Mom's car to the mechanic's in preparation for next week's trip to Indiana. After, we stopped by Yooper Brother Mark's before coming back home.
Iron River's popular Santa has asked me to step in for him and be the Jolly Old Elf this coming Thursday evening for the local cub scout troop and their families.
As I told Mark, I'm but a mere novice who will be listening to all the good little munchkins in front of the Santa master.
Now I know how Grasshopper felt when he tried to snatch the pebble from Master's hand.
Sargie closes this evening, but has Thursday off. She works Friday and Saturday before beginning a well earned one-week vacation.
I'm heading back to the shop shortly, but will quit long enough to take my usual walk when Sargie leaves for work. Other than finish the snow lady, I'd like to make a carry tray for all my acrylic paints. Since the shop dips below freezing on the coldest nights, I've been carrying them in and out of the house in a bucket. It works, but isn't very practical.
I'm hoping to finish with all the Christmas presents, at least any that have to be mailed, this week. I wish I had a few elves to help.
No? Guess I'll have to man up and finish them on my own.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
