Monday was another near perfect day |

Finally! The day has arrived. No more political commercials. No more mud slinging. Accusations, at least in the commercial form, will be replaced by a talking gecko. It's election day. Now all we can do is hope that enough people vote to make America great again.
Even Ivy's telling people to get out and vote. This was taken by the old fort in Fort Fairfield, Maine, the one that helped to guard the US against those pesky Canadians way back when.
Seems ironic. In 1838, the United States was worried about our friends to the north invading. Today, we have illegal aliens streaming across the border by the tens of thousands and the government no longer cares. In fact, we have a President who is encouraging them to vote illegally. Sure shoots down the theory that with age comes wisdom, doesn't it?
After a beautiful walk, I spent the rest of Monday in the shop. One more day of sanding should see this current project coming to an end.
I was reading in the Anchorage (Alaska) newspaper yesterday that the President of the university has proposed that the Schools of Education on the three campuses, Juneau, Anchorage, and Fairbanks, be condensed into one, located on the UA Fairbanks campus. In essence, the School of Education on the UA Southeast campus, for whom I taught in Sitka, would cease to exist.
As I told my former department head, I'm grateful I retired when I did. I love the UAS campuses, both in Juneau and the satellite facility in Sitka, and the people who work in each. It would break my heart to see our School of Education go away. There are some things money can't buy, knowledgeable, loving, concerned, educators and staff is one of them.
For readers who've been with me for many years, you'll remember I started my Alaska journey teaching for UAF's School of Education out of Kotzebue, north of the Arctic Circle.
Sargie was home early last night and we enjoyed an evening of Dancing With the Stars. This season is quickly winding down, something that saddens both of us. There's little good programming on television, at least anything that really excites either of us.
Sargie closes tonight. We'll cast our ballots later this morning and then I plan to work in the shop. With a forecast high of 49 degrees and gusty winds, it'll be a good day to work inside.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
Brutus's new favorite place on a sunny day is along the south side of the barn where he can soak up the radiant heat while snoozing the day away. |
