Day Two - Bennet's journey continues
February 6, 2016 - Saturday morning

Matt just sent a text saying Jessica and Bennet are continuing to do well. Someone said yesterday that I ought to call the blog Grandparent Central. That's what it's for, to share pictures and news with family and friends.

Month-old Ivy and Daddy having some bonding time.
When I first started writing the blog, back at the turn of the century (doesn't that sound ancient?) the main purpose was so Mom and Dad could see pictures of the arctic, Alaska, and where I was traveling. At that time, no one knew of the blog and often, members of my immediate family were the only readers.

I had previously written a weekly newspaper column for over twenty-five years and for a while, I wrote both. Eventually, the column ended, but daily writing had become a habit, a mental exercise, and though Dad passed on a number of years ago, the main purpose remains the same to this day, to share pictures and stories with friends and family. Both have increased substantially over the years.

I'm glad it's Sarah and Curtis who get to stand by the door with a ball bat to fend off the boys when Isabella gets older.

After my usual three-mile walk Friday morning, I headed to the shop and finished the first strawberry pyramid... well, all but the irrigation pipes. A simple insertion, those will all be done all at once when the other planters are finished.

I felt so good, so downright carpenterish after the last nail was driven. Only one problem... the planter wouldn't fit through the main door of the shop. It was too wide.

I knew those two huge doors were built for a good reason. Though both were swollen, or the floor has heaved, I eventually pried and pounded them open and the planter was removed.

All the planters will be kept in the barn until the entire strawberry pyramid project is finished. My plan is to load them all on the trailer then deliver them around Iron and Dickinson Counties later this spring.

It took over an hour to sweep and clean the shop, only to begin making a new mess while starting the base of the second planter.

The most difficult process of the entire project is chiseling the butt of the post into a three-inch square so the treated 2x4's can be evenly mounted on all four sides.

Yooper Brother Mark stopped by late Friday afternoon and we had a good visit. They are looking forward to flying to Wyoming this spring to visit Sarah, Curtis, and of course, Isabella.

Sargie was home early last night and made shrimp Alfredo for supper. As an added twist, she included a bag of last summer's frozen cauliflower, an excellent addition.

Along with garlic bread, I ate entirely too much.

Sargie's off for the next two days. I think I'll sneak back out to the shop for a couple of hours while she's doing her inside thing. I already hear the wash machine going in the basement. No doubt, we'll take our usual afternoon drive and she mentioned last night she wanted to stop by Insurance Liquidators and look for something or the other.

Me? I'm just along for the ride, because as we all know, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
