Coming into the beautiful community of Alpha, Michigan, on my way home from Iron Mountain Friday morning. |
33 degrees/cloudy/windy/snow flurries
Pentoga Road
Yeah, you read it right... snow flurries. Thankfully, its to be chilly, yet sunny and dry, beginning on Tuesday of this coming week. If I really hustle, I should be able to finish most of my outdoor chores before the snow begins to fall for real. My biggest task will be to slap a coat of primer on the storage shed.
There's not much time to write. We're heading to Green Bay in a few minutes for a day of fun and games in Title Town. Actually, I need to purchase a large tarp to throw over my outdoors woodpile. Sargie has a list of essentials to buy at Sam's Club. Other than that, I imagine there will be a lot of window shopping.
Friday was cold and rainy. After arriving home from Iron Mountain, I spent most of the day working on the trim that had rotted around the garage door.
I didn't like what I found and in the end, made a small mold and poured a fiberglass base for the new 2x4's and frame to sit on. Otherwise, whatever I replace the old with would simply rot again in another year or two. I still have some fiberglass work to do, a bit of cement work, then I'll rebuild the frame and replace the old trim with new.
Like everything else I've found in the garage, it was built with the quickest and cheapest methods possible and cosmetically covered over by the previous owners. I'm going to do a bit of hand cement work this next week to build up this part of the floor so water won't settle next to the wall.
I made a chicken stew later in the afternoon, as much for the aroma as for the stew. What's better on a cold and rainy day than the smell of a good soup or stew simmering on the stove? I dug the potatoes from the garden, used canned green beans from the garden, threw in some corn, kohlrabi from the garden, secret herbs and spices, and if I could have found a chicken plant in the garden, I'd have used that rather than one that comes in a can.
Deer and turkeys in our meadow. I made a video of the deer actually chasing the turkeys and will try to upload that sometime in the future. |
Sargie had too many hours this last week and was home by mid afternoon. We sat by the wood stove for the rest of the day talking, eating, and watching television. Bedtime came early last night.
We'll be leaving in a few minutes for Green Bay. No doubt, Mike and Aaron will want to do lunch and discuss game day strategies for their contest tomorrow against Carolina. Failing that, there'll be stops at Sam's Club, Fleet Farm, the mall, and of course, Harbor Freight.
Just thinking about it makes me tired, but then I'm not surprised. After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
