There's a reason why a 9,000 volt electric fence surrounds the garden. I'm very mindful that the garden was carved out of the North Woods and the deer were here first. |
66 degrees/cloudy/windy
Pentoga Road
Something's amiss. The forecast high for today is 65 degrees and the thermometer is registering 66. Appears as if the weatherman lied once again.
Friday was a busy one on Pentoga Road. After seeing Sargie off to work, I took the first load of goodies to the local thrift store in town making one of the two piles in my barn smaller. The other is for sister-in-law Trish's, church rummage sale.
I arrived home, loaded the SUV, and delivered yet another load. No doubt, there'll be more before we're finished.
The burn barrel was almost filled with ashes. I dug a large hole with the backhoe, then loaded the heavy barrel onto the front end loader of the tractor, dumped, and buried the contents of the barrel. No doubt, some archaeologist will uncover the contents in a thousand years and talk about the primitive people of Pentoga.
Neighbor Mike came walking through the back yard with a couple of partridge. Bless his heart, he gave me both saying he was paying his yearly rent for hunting on my land. I replied that two measly little birds weren't nearly enough and we both laughed. We're so fortunate to have a good neighbor as Mike. I look after his camp and land when he's gone and if we're away and he's around, he does the same with our home and land.
It took about two minutes to clean the birds and Sargie and I will enjoy them for tonight's supper.
I managed to get two more shelves built in the storage shed; one under the window and the other up high and stretching to the front door. There are two more shelves to build and that chore can be chalked off the list.
Sargie's about finished going through boxes and totes from her old storage shed. It's been a long and strenuous task, but she can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Yooper Brother Mark had suggested the four of us go out for a Friday night fish fry. We ended up at Snipe Lake Pub for their $8.95 "All the fish you can eat" night. Along with cole slaw and sweet tater fries, the fried fish was outstanding, the company even better.
I'm hoping that Sargie and I might move the last load from the old storage unit today. A bit of furniture and appliances are all that remains. Most will be sold. Family things will be put into the shed to pass down to her sons.
I'm going to attempt to build the last of the shelves this morning. Sargie's off the next two days and is sleeping in a bit this morning. But first, it's time for a cup of coffee and listen to the news.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
