June 20, 2014 - Friday
50 degrees/rain/breezy
Pentoga Road

As with all good things, Andy's visit is about to end. He flies out on the 1 PM flight on his way south. Both Sargie and I hate to see him leave. For the past week, Pentoga Road has witnessed lots of laughter coupled with no small amount of talking, some work, and lots of fun.

Fishing was fairly decent on Wednesday. Andy caught several very large bluegills and some nice-sized bass

An eagle looks down on us while fishing

After his confrontation with the porcupine, Brutus has remained close. Here, he's helping Andy replace the storm door screen. Brutus is healing nicely and about back to normal. Hopefully, he learned to respect the porcupines that roam our woods. Time will tell.

There was a boulder I hit each time I mowed the grass that stuck out of the ground alongside our shallow well. Andy did some precision backhoe work on Wednesday afternoon and removed it.

Bringing in top soil to fill in where the boulder was.
We played many games of H-O-R-S-E this past week and I'm happy to say I am the current Pentoga Road World Champion. (I think Andy let me win.)
We cleaned the area in back of the barn where I'll begin construction on the storage building this next week. Andy couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a free country-style carnival ride.

The area is staked out and ready to begin construction.
Andy purchased ribeye steaks for my birthday supper on Thursday
and Sargie made a to-die-for supper of salad, baked potato, and green beans, canned from last summer's garden. She also made a double layer carrot cake.

Along with some other goodies, Sargie gave me a new trail cam. My old one is about worn out from many years of taking wildlife pictures.
It's been an action-packed week with Andy and I going fishing, playing basketball, doing landscaping with the backhoe and tractor, putting up some firewood, plus whatever else came our way.

I'm going to purchase some treated posts in Iron Mountain this afternoon at Home Depot so I can begin construction on the storage shed in the next few days. The posts will be cemented into the ground.

There's still the cucumber trellis to finish in the garden and of course, the landscaping work is an ongoing project. No time to be bored on Pentoga Road.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
