I finally received a picture of my second son, Luke's, award for being named Fire Fighter of the Year in South Portland, Maine. A lieutenant and many-year veteran of the department, Luke has laid it out there for those he serves many times. It makes his old daddy proud to see the people of South Portland have acknowledged his contributions. Again, congratulations son.
Macrea, Mel, and Baby Grady are visiting. They arrived last night around 9 PM and will be spending today with us.
It gave Sargie and me a chance to not only talk with the kids, but also hold and have some good conversations with Grady. He's sure a good baby and I especially enjoyed our late-night gab we had last night.
I'd just finished telling Grady some fishing stories when we both decided it was time to rest our eyes. |
Brutus LOVES little children. Raised with babies, his demeanor around them is very mild. Here, he's dying to give Grady a big ol' lick. |
Most of Saturday was spent outside. I planted the blackberry roots that Neighbor Mike had dug from an area around Marquette and brought to me. After, I worked in the garden, mostly constructing the cucumber trellis. I have the frame finished and part of the weaving done. I hope to have it completely finished by day's end.
I use the the small four wheeler much like one would a saw horse and work bench. Actually, the ATV serves many functions, including those of a pickup truck. |
Some of the flowers in the perennial garden are beginning to bloom. |
The cucumber trellis. Weaving the twine is all that remains. |
We're looking forward to visiting today and of course, playing with Grady. Tomorrow brings a podiatrist's appointment. I have growths on the tendons of both feet that have completely halted my hiking. Hopefully, a shot of cortisone in each foot will see me become active again.
Until then, as Grady can attest in the following series of pictures, a man's work is never done, but can be worthwhile in the end.
