Pursuing our happiness in Pennsylvania, at least for another few miles

July 15, 2021 - Thursday morning
76 degrees/partly cloudy/calm winds
Erie, PA

Lord Almighty, who came up with the spelling for Pennsylvania? I guess William Penn was a good guy, but what would have been wrong with something like Penn's Place? How about Williamsburg. Whoops, already taken.

But no, someone had to throw in a couple of N's and a Y, let alone a V. Geesh.

Okay, with that silliness over, we landed in Erie, Pennsylvania, Wednesday afternoon. The drive through Michigan and across Ohio was relatively benign. Traffic was heavy as well as the construction zones, but everyone kept moving. Seldom did I see our speedometer drop much below 70 MPH and it hovered near 80 most of the time.

Downtown Cleveland
I told Sargie earlier in the morning that I felt "funny." After a continental breakfast of horrible scrambled eggs and bacon, my stomach began to protest and felt that way throughout the day.

We were a mere ten miles from Erie when I told Sargie I was going to be sick. Racing along at 75 mph in the middle of a multilane interstate, there was no way I could pull over, so we improvised.

Sargie grabbed a plastic grocery sack and handed it to me while my foot remained on the gas peddle. My bride expertly reached over and steered and together we continued down the interstate while the eggs and sausage were vacated.

Arriving at the hotel, a relic from the 1960's, Sargie unloaded our luggage while I sat inside the car with the heater running. I had the chills and was shivering so badly that I could barely move. Once inside our room, I climbed between the sheets of one bed, shivering, and Sargie soon crawled in beside, draping her body over mine.

I soon fell asleep and for the most part, remained that way until this morning.

I never did run a fever and feel just fine this morning. Sargie and I have come to the conclusion it was food poisoning. She feels fine and while reviewing yesterday's food choices, discovered the only thing I ate that she didn't was breakfast. Oh well, it's all gone now, literally, I feel fine.

We're only about eight hours from Matt and Jessica's and not due to arrive until tomorrow. Though they said to come on ahead, I think we'll take our time and split the driving into two easy days. Josh, who lives in Old Saybrook, CT, said to come and stay at his house tonight, but I'm not certain how close we'll actually be. I'll check out the map as soon as this is uploaded.

We're excited to see everyone and gearing up for a fun Pennington Boy Weekend. Guaranteed, there'll be no dull moments.

Time to get the day started.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Erie, Pennsylvania...
