July 14, 2021 - Wednesday morning

Pentoga Road
We made it across the Upper Peninsula and onto Gaylord, Michigan, in the lower peninsula without any hitches on Tuesday.
I tried something different (for me) before our departure from Pentoga Road. I consciously made the decision we weren't going to rush and we'd arrive home sometime next week feeling relaxed and hopefully refreshed. (Yeah, I know, we're retired. Our lives aren't exactly stressful, but you get the drift.)
I went for my usual walk before coming back home and watering the flower planters and garden. I was surprised to see some of the pumpkins are beginning to bloom, as are the cucumbers and zucchini squash.
We left around 11 Tuesday morning and despite heavy traffic between Escanaba, Michigan, and the Mackinac Bridge, we made good time. The views along the northern shores of Lake Michigan are beautiful and we talked how much fun it would be to own a home on the lake.
Uh huh. Winning the lottery would be equally as enjoyable.
We stopped along the way to take in the sights and enjoy the fresh air and cool temperatures.
The Upper Peninsula has a larger land mass than many states and it took almost five hours before we reached the bridge that connects the two Michigans.
Disappointed that conditions were foggy, we made our way across with few views.
Gaylord, our planned destination for Tuesday, seems to be a wonderful northern Michigan community. Sargie's phone has been acting up, so after checking in at our hotel that Sargie had booked, via Priceline, we drove back into town and found a Verizon store. It took the clerk all of two minutes to click her way to the problem and after a quick stroll through an outlet store, we were on our way back to the hotel.
It's about time to wake Sargie for the day. We should leave here in an hour or so and head south through the rest of Michigan before turning east in Toledo, Ohio. Today's goal is to end up a couple of hours on the other side of Cleveland. Lord knows what we'll find in traffic and construction, so we'll just take it as it comes.
Give me a broken down snowmobile in white out conditions forty miles from the next closest human being and I'm fairly confident. Put me behind the wheel in city traffic and I'm a basket case.
Time to pull up my big boy pants and hit the road.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road, via Gaylord, Michgan.
