I was eager to have breakfast and get to town so I could hurry back home and work in the shop.
We got Sargie's Coke before making a quick trip through the car wash to rid the Kia of a ton or two of road salt.
I thought the time spent in the car wash might be best spent romancing my bride, or at least trying to.
I mean, there we were, two lonely ships passing in the mist of a car wash bay.
Ask me how the romancing worked.
Sargie just laughed and went back to catching up on her unread emails.
Back home, I was on my way to the shop when Sargie reminded me (again) that I'd promised to hang the new ceiling fan in our bedroom. We purchased the fan last year while visiting Garry and Jody in Mississippi and it's sat in the spare room since.
Sargie has a passive aggressive manner of getting her point across. She asked monthly when the fan might be installed for the first half of the year. The hint went from once a month to weekly and lately, daily.
As Robert Frost wrote, "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry."
There was nothing to do but cancel any thoughts of playing in the shop and install the fan.
Sargie did much of this afternoon's work. While she assembled components of the fan, I played electrician and began the wiring.
Between lousy eyesight and a case of old man tremors, I quickly grew frustrated. Screws were dropping onto the floor and try as I may, I had difficulty inserting the screwdriver into the phillips head screws. I knew what to do, I either couldn't see or hold my hands still enough to be of any good.It was Sargie to the rescue. Thank goodness she's multi talented.
In the end, the fan and light kit were successfully installed. Sargie's already talking about putting another fan in the spare bedroom.
I'll be up early in the morning to go for my walk before heading to Norway. After that, all bets are off. It's the best laid plans thing.
Stay tuned.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
