January 3, 2021 - Sunday morning
-1 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

I don't know what we did to deserve this beautiful weather, but we'll take it. After being so cold and snowy a year ago, this more than makes up for it. I see highs are to reach into the mid to upper 30's all week before falling into the 20's next week.

Al would call this global warming. I'm calling it pure heaven.

Crystal Falls fire tower soars high above the sugar maples and can be seen from miles around

Yesterday's walk was beautiful. Hoar frost blanketed everything, making Pentoga Road appear almost magical, but then, isn't it?

Hambone and Makenna, both, arrived around 12:30 with their mommies and daddies in tow. We spent the day laughing, playing, EATING, and of course, later in the afternoon, we opened presents.

Christmas day had arrived one last time on Pentoga Road and we made the most of it.

Part of the festivities was to watch Hambone and niece, Aubrey's, virtual school Christmas concert. Recorded on Youtube, we were able to share in the musical festivities with the little ones.

Grady was a perfect helping host, clearing the dishes from the living room. His mother said she wanted to take that Grady back home. I was proud of the boy, but really, would expect no less from him. When visiting Grandma Sargie and Pawpaw, he willingly carries his own weight.

Mel's due date is coming quickly and Sargie delighted in feeling our newest grandbaby do cartwheels in her mama's tummy.

Later, Hambone played Santa by bringing in the presents, one at a time, from under the dining room Christmas tree.

We'd watch the person open the gift before Hambone went back to get another. By doing so, it made Christmas last that much longer. Grady also delighted in helping seven month old Makenna open her presents.

Sargie enjoyed decorating her little boy.

Shea, Nikki, and Makenna, departed later in the afternoon for Oconto, Wisconsin. Macrea, Mel, and Hambone, a couple of hours later for Iron Mountain. It had been a wonderful day, filled with love and laughter, a perfect way to end this Christmas season.

I'm not certain what today will bring other than watching Pat preach the word from Fresno later on this morning.

All good things come to an end and with that, the Christmas decorations will have to be put away. It's been a couple of weeks since I've been in the shop and there are eighty or a hundred ideas of goodies to make floating around in my head, plus two or three projects that were started before Christmas. Then there's ice fishing. Sargie and I are planning to go to Green Bay at some point this week to shop for household supplies.

Oh Lord, so much to do, so little of me.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
