Our youngest granddaughter, Makenna, born almost two months prematurely, has her feeding tube removed and appears to be only days away from going home.

Miracles do happen. Makenna decided to enter this world long before she was due and has been in the NICU unit in Green Bay. We received word Saturday evening that she's been moved and assuming she continues to take food on her own, should be coming home anytime.

One thing that's certain, Grandma Sargie is itching to hold that baby girl.

Sargie's son, Shea, and Makenna
Saturday began by hiking with Tim on a nine mile route. We saw darker marks on the old railroad grade, something we've not noticed previously, and have come to the conclusion that they were left by the old railroad ties that were removed long ago.

We had some great conversations while hiking, but then Tim and I always do.

I left my friend off at his home and started the solitary last two miles home. Just up the road stood a doe. No doubt, she had a fawn nearby as she wasn't too anxious to move.

I plucked several wild green apples while walking with the thought of having fried green apples for breakfast.

I remember Grandma, as well as Mom, frying apples when I was a young child. Sargie and I cored and sliced each before dipping them in batter and laying them in a large frying pan.

Once done, all were rolled in sugar and eaten while warm. Tasting like a combination of an apple fritter and funnel cake, I don't need to tell you how good they were.

Most of Saturday was spent cleaning the shop. I'm about 2/3rds the way through.

Sargie came out and gave it her seal of cleaning approval. It should be finished later today.

Tim and Rose invited us to supper last night. On the menu was pizza cooked over an open fire.

Talk about good. Words can't describe how delicious all four were.

Tim and Rose have cooking over a wood fire down to a science and the pizzas were done to perfection.

We sat outside until well after dark enjoying the fire and talking.

I'm heading out the door in a few minutes for my morning walk. My goal for today is to finish cleaning the shop. I've sworn that will be done before I begin any other project.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
