February 7, 2018 - Thursday evening
18 degrees/cloudy/calm winds
Pentoga Road

We survived the snowstorm that began earlier today. Thankfully, it was quick moving and all warnings have expired. Carl the Weatherman says strong winds will pick up overnight, so we'll get to deal with blowing and drifting snow in the morning.

Sargie was somewhat tentative when she left this morning. She worked until noon, leaving just after the heavy snow started to fall.

I started the wood furnace as soon as Sargie left.

The gasoline cans were almost empty, not a good thing when expecting heavy snow and needing to plow and run the snow blower. I drove to town and got fuel.

Back home, I wanted to make another mother/child intarsia piece which meant readying a length of hickory. After cutting what was needed from a rough board, it was run through the planer.

It's amazing what a pass or two through the planer can do. It was transformed from a rough board out of a sawmill to a beautiful, finished, piece of lumber.

I love working with hickory and it finishes up really nicely.

I printed off the mother/child intarsia pattern, mounted it to the wood, and sawed all the pieces before morning's end.

One of these days, I'm going to have to begin carving and shaping. Not only do I have Chief the dog to complete, now I have the newest piece.

Hearing a truck in the drive I looked out to see Tim and Doug, the county workers, putting up a new mailbox to replace the one the plow ran over a few days ago.

We had a good conversation after and laughed a bunch. Both are great guys.

Back in the shop, I resumed making and painting flowers. Just like the carving, I need to finish the flower/birch log project one of these days.

Right now, I have four different projects going, almost too many irons in the fire.

Much of the afternoon was spent clearing snow from the drive and deck. I'll finish cleaning up  and plow Jambo's this weekend.

Sargie's off on Friday. I'll be Florence High School's science teacher for the day. The wind's to blow between twenty and thirty miles per hour with the temperature topping out in the single numbers.

Sounds like the perfect day to be a substitute teacher.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
