October 4, 2018 - Thursday evening
37 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

I figured I'd better write tonight since I have to be at the elementary school by 7:30 tomorrow morning. Education waits for no one!

Thursday was busy. Holy cow, was it ever. In fact, I don't believe I could have jammed any more into one day if I tried.

Sargie's off to work on Thursday morning
My activities began in the shop where I painted one project and began another.

I'm falling behind making pumpkins. Today, I began turning my first of the season.

I used a piece of fence post and began turning.

Why not a pumpkin with a hat? Sounded good to me.

I managed to paint the first coat of orange on the pumpkin before it was time to clean up and change clothes for an afternoon of teaching. I'll do his hat and paint his face this weekend.

I took a quick walk around the property to enjoy the fall colors. Too bad they last for so little time.

I thoroughly enjoyed being the librarian/computer teacher this afternoon.

Third grade was my favorite class. I read The Little Green Witch after which we had a very deep discussion about why she didn't share her green pumpkin pie.

Back home, after another change of clothes and with Sargie's help, I began framing the lean to that will cover the wood furnace.

Amazing how difficult it can be to get four corners perfectly square with each other. Sargie and I measured, then measured from corner to corner, made a million adjustments, and finally, I let fly with four inch nails to fasten the first piece onto the barn.

The fuel in my energy tank ran dry before I'd finished pounding the last nail. I finished the bare minimum with a mental promise that the structure will be finished and the wood furnace installed by the end of next week.

Sargie works tomorrow and I'm once again librarian for the day. Funny, I'll have worked four out of five days this week and already, I can hardly wait for the weekend. Lordy, I'm spoiled.

It's time to close and think about climbing those long, steep, steps to the bedroom. I've tried talking Sargie into carrying me, but so far, it's fallen on deaf ears.

If only you had my life, you'd understand.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
