"Born to be Wild"
Coleman and Grandpa
October 17, 2018 - Wednesday evening
38 degrees/clear/calm winds
North Waterboro, Maine

It's been a fast and furious day filled with lots of fun and catching up on life.

Looking out the window while eating breakfast at Matt and Jess's in Stratham, New Hampshire.
Matt and I left shortly after eight this morning for the Kittery Trading Post to meet Luke for the Grandpa exchange.

While waiting for Luke to arrive, I tried on a side-by-side for size and think I found the one I want.

Only two things stand in my way:

1) how to fit it in my carry-on
2) how to pay for the thing

I have until Sunday to get it all figured out.

Luke and I shopped a bit and he found a pair of boots he was interested in.

There were eighty or a hundred items I wanted, but I was still trying to figure out how to pay for the side-by-side.

Coleman and Abigail only had half a day of school and greeted us when we walked in the door.

The rest of the afternoon was spent outside. We rode the mini bike and four wheeler, had some shooting contests with Coleman's BB gun, changed a belt on the old snowmobile, and watched Luke shoot his bow and arrows.

Coleman was happy to show me his hide out, a fort he made by the river out of canoes and pallets. There's little doubt he's spent a lot of time on his boy cave.

I would be remiss if I didn't include a picture of my new BFF, Scout, the black lab. He's a great pup and we've been almost inseparable since my arrival.

Abigail wasn't idle while we were outside. We opened the back door and were greeted with the aroma of freshly baked cookies.

My oldest granddaughter had mixed up a batch of pumpkin/chocolate chip cookies from scratch that were to die for. I've already told her that if she would come live with Grandma Sargie and me, we'd buy her a brand new oven as long as she kept the cookies coming.

Abigail thinks she might want to go into the culinary field, possibly owning her own bakery someday. Abba gets her kitchen magic skills honestly. Luke has always been an excellent cook and made up a batch of chicken and noodles for supper tonight.

Luke and I accompanied Coleman to football practice. He plays guard on offense and middle linebacker on the other side of the ball.

Coleman's the one in the dark green jersey and white helmet.
Melinda was home from work by the time Coleman's practice was over. An RN and nursing supervisor, she works long hours. We had the opportunity to visit a bit before bedtime arrived.

The kiddies have school tomorrow. Andy and Ivy will be leaving later in the day from northern Maine and driving to Luke's. They'll be here tomorrow night.

Luke and I are planning hiking tomorrow if the weather permits. I'm anxious to strap on a pair of hikers and put some hills and rocks under my feet.

It's time to head to bed. Grandpa's tired tonight and bed's going to feel mighty good.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road by way of North Waterboro, Maine...

Luke and Melinda live on the beautiful Little Ossipee River that meanders through their back yard.
