You can run, but you can't hide |
34 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road
Thanks to Neighbor Mike for sharing the above picture. I've never heard of using a trail camera as bait, but in this case, it certainly worked.
Hey, it's cold. I stepped outside to get a couple of pieces of wood for the stove and about fell on my backside. The thick frost on the deck made footing a bit slippery. I'm guessing summer might be about over.
Friday was pretty much a worthless day. The winds were ruthless as a cold front began marching through. The lights flickered once, then permanently went out.
After the repairs were made first thing in the morning and the workers left, the power went out again for the entire day. |
I put three, very carefully, trod miles under my feet yesterday. My destination was the lake.
The foot did well. It was the leg that it's attached to that suffered a bit. Seems I haven't used some of those muscles in a while and a few protested being put back into action.
The journey took about twice as long as usual, but I made it without any problems.
Needles blown on the road from a nearby red pine plantation |
The rest of the day was spent being lazy. I attempted twice to work outside, but each time I stuck my nose out the door, rain began to fall. Without electricity, the shop was worthless. Other than a quick trip to town, mostly to waste time, I ended up sitting by the wood stove, a blanket covering my lap, reading all day.
A decent buck and does grazing in a yard in Gaastra |
The power was restored around five giving me the opportunity to do some vacuuming and sweeping and as Sargie says, "spiffying up a bit".
My bride arrived home later in the evening. I put a few burgers on the grill and we enjoyed those along with winter squash for supper.
Looks as though we'll have plenty of desktop pumpkins for decoration |
She closes the Vision Center tonight. I'm going for my walk then hope to finish the forms and pour concrete for the wood stove pad. The lawn needs mowing and I'm hoping to use the backhoe and bury any remnants of the burn pile. Sargie seems to think that ought to be turned into yard and the burn pile moved to a less conspicuous place. I agree.
Geesh, give the girl a new riding mower and she becomes Keeper of the Lawn. I say, let her have it!
Meanwhile, the coffee's done and it's time to get this day started.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
The garden looks terrible after yesterday's wind, but under all those leaves lie this year's pumpkins and squash. |
