Turkeys walking up Neighbor Mike's drive |

Pentoga Road
It's going to be a short one today. Sargie is off, but has an appointment in Iron Mountain fairly early, so we'll be heading out the door in a bit.
Thursday morning was spent in the shop working on the goblet.
Making a goblet wasn't anything new, but turning two rings around the stem was a first for me. The wood was hard maple.
How to sand the inside of the rings? I cut a thin piece of sandpaper then used duct tape to secure just the edges to the stem.
It was a matter of holding the rings and letting the turning lathe provide the power to sand each from the inside.
There's still a bit of light sanding and finish work to do, but for all intents and purposes, my first goblet with rings, is finished.
I left mid afternoon for my podiatrist's appointment in Iron Mountain. The tendon has healed nicely and I've been given permission to navigate without the boot. She also said I could resume limited recreational hiking as long as I didn't try to conquer Mt. Everest in the next day or two.
Honestly, this whole foot thing as been so miserable that I'm more than happy to take it easy. It feels odd to not be wearing the cast. If the foot gets to hurting again, I'll not hesitate to put it on. I want everything to heal correctly so I can, indeed, conquer Everest... or at least walk to Pentoga Village and back.
It was cold and rainy on Thursday and the temperature in the house refused to budge above 60 degrees. The fire I built after arriving home from Iron Mountain felt mighty good.
Sargie was home around 9:30 and we finished the evening by watching the results show of America's Got Talent. It has been one of the better seasons.
It's time to wrap up and get this show on the road.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
After burning overnight, all that's left of the burn pile are a few smoldering pieces. |
