The 4th of July bowl and bouquet are finished

July 3, 2018 - Tuesday
69 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

It's hard to believe that our nation's birthday is once again upon us. It's true, the older one becomes, the faster the years come and go.

Tuesday began in the garden. The vegetables continue to grow at an amazing rate and the flowers are beginning to bloom. So far so good.

This dianthus looks more like a snowball than a flower.
The rest of the morning was spent in the shop making flowers for the 4th of July piece. Sargie had helped cut out the petals on Monday so I began shaping and gluing each.

After, I painted the flowers, red, white, and blue, then began assembling the bouquet.

Sargie and I traveled to Rhinelander, Wisconsin, shortly after noon to look at a couple of dogs at the local humane society. They were the breeds we were interested in, but unfortunately, they were used as breeding stock, rescues from a puppy mill. The two we looked at were adults, both seemingly friendly, but neither were house trained and we were afraid there could/would be long term ramifications as a result of spending their entire lives in cages doing nothing but breeding and bearing puppies.

As much as I wanted to bring one home, we passed on both and after a bit of shopping, returned to Pentoga Road.

While Sargie worked in the flower beds around the yard this evening, I headed to the shop to finish the flowers. Sargie later joined me, making another flower and the leaves.

We've watched a bit of tv tonight and are about ready to head up the stairs.

Tomorrow brings the Mighty Milligan Fourth of July Celebration at Derek and Leah's. Sargie and I will be up early, trimming and parboiling ten pounds of chicken quarters to be grilled later in the day.

We'll leave late morning for Iron Mountain to enjoy a day of swimming, laughing, eating, and celebrating with the rest of the family.

So with that being said, I wish one and all a wonderful Fourth of July.

Happy birthday to this wonderful country and may God Bless America.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
