There must have been a hundred deer in a field adjacent to Pentoga Village Friday afternoon.
March 9, 2018 - Friday evening
20 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

Friday was almost a non event day. I'm sitting here wondering what there is to write about. Hmmm.

I walked five miles first thing this morning. Though it was chilly, there was no wind which made the stroll quite pleasant.

Most the morning and afternoon was spent on the Easter scroll saw piece.

I almost ruined the thing. After sanding it, I decided to apply a coat of maple stain. I shouldn't have. It came out looking too dark.

What to do?

I spent the majority of the day attempting to sand the stain out of it. It's still not perfect, but Sargie remarked tonight that she likes the way it looks. Possibly I'm closer to being finished than I gave myself credit for.

The late afternoon was too nice to remain inside. I put back on my hiking boots and walked the three miles to Pentoga Village and back.

There's an ancient tree in the old ghost town that has wonderful apples. I took several pieces of scion wood last year for grafts but all died.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try, again.

I came home with another half dozen pieces and will attempt to graft those onto my existing apple trees in another six weeks or so.

Sargie was home early this evening. She opens the Vision Center tomorrow then is off Sunday.

I'm going for my usual walk in the morning then will try to finish the Easter piece. I also hope to get the sap pans out of the storage container and begin to ready those for maple syrup season.

It's almost bedtime. Time to head upstairs.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

There's more than one way to sand a scroll saw piece.
