Gardening in the snow? Not hardly. We were burning brush just off camera.

Pentoga Road

Tommy P's about as tired tonight as he's been in a long time. Sargie and I spent almost all afternoon feeding the large burn pile at the edge of the front meadow.

Before Pentoga Road's two pyromaniacs struck a match, we went for our usual day-off ride. The sun was bright and the temperature moderate.

Though there is plenty of ice on the lakes with ice fishermen dotting the surface, we're seeing more and more open water, especially any place where there's the least bit of current.

I haven't heard a fishing report lately and should go one of these days, but honestly, my mind has moved beyond winter sports to more spring-like activities.

Ice fishermen on Sunday morning

I headed to the burn pile as soon as we arrived home. With two years accumulation of limbs, downed trees, and trimmed brush, the pile was huge.

Sargie joined me later in the afternoon.

The old Ford tractor with the front end loader was sadly missed today. Fearful it would get stuck in the deeper snow, we opted to pile the logs and brush by hand as the pile burned down.

By day's end, we'd made great progress and about half the original pile is gone. Once I can get the tractor to the meadow, I'll use the front end loader to stack the logs. I'd like to see the pile completely disappear before summer arrives.

Sargie closes the Vision Center Monday before beginning her almost two week vacation. I'll go for my walk in the morning then keep adding wood to the burn pile and work in the shop. It looks to be a busy day.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
