Pentoga Road
This is different. I'm sitting in Grandma Pennington's big rocker in the dining room pounding away on the Chromebook rather than the Apple MacBook Pro. The door between my usual writing nook, the living room, and the rest of the house has been closed and the Apple is already packed.
To answer the obvious question; the living room was an add on to the house and isn't part of the central heating system. We close it off while away during the winter months making the other rooms easy to keep warm with the oil furnace.
We had a wonderful day yesterday. Sargie got to sleep in, had a leisurely shower, opened her gifts, and enjoyed reading the cards that had filled our mailbox with birthday wishes.
I spent much of the morning in the shop working on a Christmas gift and am happy to say that it's almost finished. With all the puzzles out of the way, I'm back in my comfort zone, making big people things, something I enjoy a great deal.
As is often the case, Carl the Weatherman lied about the amount of snow that was to fall. Rather than the paltry one to three inches he'd mentioned Tuesday evening, we received a healthy six or eight.
I spent some time yesterday plowing, blowing, and shoveling the deck, walk, and drive. It needs it again, but will have to wait until we arrive home from Indiana.
We slipped and slid into town and retrieved Mom's car. It's fixed and ready to go.
I made Sargie her favorite cake late in the afternoon, a German Chocolate, with double the amount of coconut frosting. I'm going to brag a bit, it came out near perfect. (Hey, it was made from a mix so how bad could it have been anyway?)
Macrea, Mel, and Hambone, arrived last night bearing pizzas and another birthday cake.
We gave Grady his puzzle so he would have something to open |
We laughed and occasionally danced and sang along. It was good to have some youth-energized Christmas spirit in the house.
And of course, no birthday would be complete without cake and ice cream.
In Sargie's case, she got two cakes!
It looks as though we'll be leaving around 7 this morning and with any luck, arrive in Terre Haute, Indiana, late this afternoon. No snow is predicted and the plows have been out.
It's time to end and get this show on the road. We've got over five-hundred miles to cover before the day is over and Mama's waiting at the other end.
As Sargie says, "It doesn't seem like Christmas until Mom gets here." Guess we better get going.
Hambone's leading us in singing Happy Birthday |
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
