One of Tuesday's scroll saw pieces |
59 degrees/cloudy skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road
Hmm, looks as though there are some thunderstorms heading our way. I just came inside and boy, is it ever humid this morning. Highs are forecast to reach the mid to upper 80's this weekend before they drop into the mid to low 50's next week.
Darn global warming. Maybe we can get Al Gore to come lecture us on our evil ways.
Tuesday morning began on a sour note. It was obvious that I'd not sat at the scroll saw for a few months. The first two pieces became firewood before I finally got back into the groove.
I wish I could blame my lack of sight for the poor beginning, but that wasn't the problem.
You know, the old practice makes perfect thing? I didn't have to worry about perfection Tuesday morning.
It's been quite a while since I sat at the saw and practiced any serious artwork.
Thankfully, I seemed to get my scroll saw legs back under me before day's end.
Neighbor Mike stopped in. He said he was going to take a break from his roll as Jambo and fix a small leak around his chimney.
I followed the boy home and planted a foot on the bottom rung of his extension ladder to ensure it didn't slip out from under him.
Mike's best buddy, Quincy, stayed beside me the entire time.
They're never far apart.
Back home and feeling much more confident, I began work on another scroll saw piece.
Though not overly difficult, this one is more involved, takes a bit more skill, and definitely more time.
The trees are looking prettier every day.
I'm guessing most will be at their peak color sometime next week or early the week after. They're not there yet.
Sargie was home early last night and we enjoyed fresh cauliflower from the garden and grilled brats. As she said, it was the perfect summer meal.
We spent the evening watching the finale of American Ninja Warrior and the final performances on America's Got Talent. The winner will be announced tonight.
Grady's coming home tonight with Grandma Sargie and spending Thursday with us. The weather's to be nice while he's here and I'm looking forward to having some quality PawPaw time with the UP's newest super hero. Sargie's off Thursday and we've talked about taking an ATV trip to town. Like most munchkins, Hambone loves to ride.
As far as today goes, I hope to finish the scroll saw pieces and do some measuring for turning a larger container than I'm used to. The measurements I've been given would be pushing the size limit for my mini lathe so I'll have to do some (as Sargie says) ciphering to see if it's possible.
The giant sunflowers are beginning to bend under the weight of their heads. Like everything else in the garden, their season is about finished. |
It's time to get Sargie's lunch packed, breakfast made, and begin the day.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
A raccoon paid a visit during the night and left his tracks on the drive. |
