January 21, 2017 - Saturday
32 degrees/fog/mist/heavy overcast
Pentoga Road
It's another day of pea soup in the Upper Peninsula. Yesterday was one, tomorrow's to be the same. According the Carl the Weatherman, colder weather is to return the middle of next week.
With the threat of freezing rain, we postponed our trip to Green Bay on Friday morning. Grady played while Sargie and I watched the inauguration.
This isn't a political blog, but anyone who reads regularly knows my beliefs lie far to the right of center, somewhere between Ronald Reagan and Attila the Hun. I no longer align myself with any political party as I don't believe that other than a lot of hot air, there's a great deal of difference between either.
I don't like government, never have, but I do realize it's a necessity to ensure a democratic society. I've always believed in the system, even if I didn't care for the President. In my case, I haven't been overly fond of any since President Reagan left office, although some were better than others.
It's been an especially tough eight years for us Attila the Hun types, but yesterday, I've never been more proud to call myself an American.
President Trump wasn't ashamed to invoke God, pinned terrorism exactly where it belongs, and called out both parties for their failures. I'm not sure that he can accomplish everything he says he can, but at least for today, there's one thing of which I'm very certain. There's hope.
God bless America.
We took our usual ride Friday afternoon. Grady was all done in and fell sound asleep in his car seat.
He woke up when we returned home and we played until it was time to meet Mommy and Daddy at the halfway point from Iron Mountain.
We headed the car twenty miles to the north on our drive, to Amasa, Michigan, yesterday.
Downtown Amasa at rush hour |
Sargie and I both agree that we wish we could turn back the clock and visit during the days when Amasa was a bustling and busy community.
Today, one of the few prominent buildings left is the old train depot and it's rapidly deteriorating.
I think Sargie and I might go to Green Bay this morning. We'll get out on the road and see how the conditions are. We're looking for a new living room couch and recliner so we'd like to do some window shopping if possible.
It's a short one today, but it's almost time to hit the road.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
