January 19, 2017 - Friday
28 degrees/high overcast/calm winds
Pentoga Road

Well, darn it. We were planning on driving to Green Bay this morning, not only for the road trip, but also to pick up a few needed household items. Yooper Brother Mark just texted saying that freezing rain and drizzle is in the forecast. Title Town might not be in our immediate future.

Macrea dropped Grady off bright and early Thursday morning and after, the day was a blur.

Our first order of business was to eat breakfast. In fact, Grady skipped the usual hug and kiss and simply said, "Pawpaw, I'm hungry," and headed towards the kitchen.

I don't mean to brag, but I do cook up a mean piece of peanut butter and jelly toast. Pawpaw to the rescue.

With breakfast over, we had to wash dishes. I found a willing dryer in Ol' Hambone.

We even talked about the differences between spoons, forks, and knives, and the munchkin child managed to get all the right pieces in the right places in the silverware drawer.

It was on to cleaning Goldy's fish bowl.

Grady's job was to wash the rocks while I scrubbed the glass. Meanwhile, Goldy happily swam in a plastic storage container.

We played crash cars, oh yes, did we ever play crash cars.

Once again, I had my head... 'er, my wheels, handed to me by a two year old. Actually, Hambone's been known to cheat. If it looks as though my car is going to hit his, he sprints and picks his up, letting mine zoom through. Sometimes life's not fair.

It was entirely too nice a day to stay inside. Out the door we went.

The snow was perfect for making a snowman. Grady helped to make one, then tried to push it over so we could begin again. He thought that was the funniest thing. I'm not sure I saw the humor, but then, I'm not two and a half years old.

We rode snowmobile for over an hour. Zooming through the woods, down our trails, across the road, and all around Neighbor Mike's woods and fields, we sang, hooped and hollered, and screamed at the top of our lungs.  We zipped along faster than the speed of light... or at least ten or twelve miles per hour.

Oh oh... Grady was steering and drove us into the largest, softest, snowbank in the area causing the Tundra to get stuck. I have to give the boy credit, he helped to dig and lift it out.

Another couple of hours was spent making a snow cave. We piled tons of snow into a large mound, before hollowing out the inside.

Whew, this digging thing can be a lot of work!
I had the hardest time convincing Hambone that we were going to go inside the cave, not play King of the Hill on top.

We finally pronounced our new home completed. Grady crawled inside, turned around and laying his head down in the doorway, closed his eyes. The little guy was ready to come inside, eat lunch, and take a nap.

First, we had wood to haul up to the house. I've never seen a boy who loves hauling wood like Hambone. I'm not sure he really enjoys the wood aspect as much as the wheelbarrow rides.

Grady took a long nap and rather than join him, Pawpaw headed out to the shop for some man time. In retrospect, I should have taken a nap too. I was all done in well before bedtime.

Sargie walked through the door last night and the action began anew. The three of us spent the evening relaxing and playing.

Sargie's off for the next three days. Another warning just flashed across the computer screen warning of freezing drizzle and rain. What to do? I guess time will tell.

Meanwhile, I'm going to throw another log on the fire, sip my first cup of coffee for the day, and enjoy the peace and quiet that can only occur right before a two-year-old tornado awakens for another day.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

After a long day of playing outside, there's nothing better than grabbing a big ol' handful of Pawpaw's belly and snuggling.
