With gusts to 40 mph, Old Glory is waving in the wind this morning |
24 degrees/snow showers/very windy
Pentoga Road
The cold front came marching through as promised. The wind is howling and the snow is coming in squalls, first a few flurries, then heavier amounts. I don't believe it will amount to much, but there's enough to cover the roads, no doubt, making them slippery.
Seems strange. Yesterday at this time, the temperature was in the fifties and I'd taken off my jacket and was comfortable working in a t-shirt.
After arriving home from Iron Mountain, I decided to clean and rearrange the barn before the temperatures dropped. The battery was removed from the old Ford tractor and will be kept down the basement for the winter months. With only a 6 volt system, its cranking power isn't the strongest. I don't normally use the tractor until late spring and that's to move the banks away from the side of the drive if I run out of room to push the snow.
With the white stuff in the forecast, for not only today, but also mentioned once or twice in the longterm prognostication, I decided to bite the bullet and put the blade on the red four wheeler.
The box was taken off the little blue ATV, gas stabilizer added, and it was moved to the back of the barn for the winter. Attaching the blade to the red four wheeler signals a changing of the guard. Sitting idle for most of the summer, it becomes my workhorse during the winter months. The smaller blue machine is the equivalent to a pick up truck during the summer, hauling everything from wood to building materials around the property.
With a fresh coat of paint on the blade, the ATV is ready to push some snow. |
Lightening streaked across the sky and thunder roared. Brutus and I had no choice but to remain in the barn and watch it happen around us.
It eventually subsided into a more normal rainfall and after half an hour, quit altogether.
So the afternoon went. With the barn rearranged and the Blazer under roof, we migrated to the shop. I made the mistake of turning on the television and plopping into the old recliner. That was a mistake.
It was dark when I awakened. Brutus had fallen sound asleep and it was his snoring that had awakened me.
Last evening was spent reading a good book on the Kindle. I'd read for a bit, then turn on the audio and let it read to me. Eventually I would grow tired of listening and return to reading again. Whether reading or listening, it's one of those novels that's hard to put down.
Sargie was home later in the evening with bedtime coming soon after. Thankfully, she's off today.
Everything, including the Blazer, fits under one roof |
Until then, be sure to remember...
... that a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
It very well could be next spring before we see another snow-free picture of the drive and house like the one above. |
