Look who just sent a picture!
Yooper Brother Mark is braving the elements inside a heated deer blind in an attempt to put meat on the table. He said that so far, the deer have been few and far between. I told him to hurry up and shoot one, that I'd like some venison with my potatoes and eggs for this morning's breakfast!

18 degrees/cloudy/calm winds
Pentoga Road

It appears the hurricane that blew in here yesterday has departed. Today's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and cold temperatures. In fact, it appears that will be the case for the coming week, highs in the thirties, lows in the twenties, with a bit of snow here and there. Hey, Christmas is around the corner. It's supposed to be cold.

It was plain miserable on Saturday. I headed to the shop fairly early and spent time playing on the lathe again. My final project was an attempt to turn a wooden soldier/nutcracker out of a used two by four. In fact, it had an old nail hole going through the head.

The nutcracker is too tall and skinny, but I filled in the hole with wood putty and sanded the whole thing.

What really excites me is that Sargie volunteered to paint it. When it comes to art work, she's really talented and I'm happy that we can do this together.

My next attempt at the same figure will be to make him shorter and fatter. As I mentioned yesterday, there's definitely a learning curve, at least for me.

Sargie and I made our usual trip to town early in the afternoon. The day simply wasn't fit for anything other than being inside. We got her Coke, purchased a box of fried chicken at the deli, and came back home. The afternoon was spent watching a chick flick on Netflix and chowing down. First it was chicken, then a handful of cashews, more cashews, ice cream, some yogurt... and the munchie list went on and on until bedtime. It was the perfect day to do absolutely nothing other than eat comfort food and stare at the television.

Sargie and I cleaned and microwaved one of the large hybrid pumpkin squash last night.

The cooked flesh was scooped and placed in freezer bags. Though it wasn't something either of us cared to do last night, we'll be glad next spring or summer that we took the time and effort.

Sargie works from noon to five today. I'm going to head back out to the shop and continue working on a couple of Christmas presents I started a few days ago.

First, I'm going to listen to the news and sip some coffee.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
