The giant pumpkin went away on Friday. Worry not, the Lord and the weather willing, it'll be back next year.
November 12, 2016 - Saturday
34 degrees/sunny/very windy
Pentoga Road

A warm front must have come busting through during the night. It was 26 degrees when we went to bed and is significantly warmer than that now. Unfortunately, the wind is howling, making it seem much colder.

Yep, the giant pumpkin is gone. A neighbor who is quite elderly, in his nineties, stopped yesterday and asked if he could purchase it for deer food. His sons, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, were coming this weekend and he was so excited that they might see the pumpkin before breaking it up to feed the deer.

He went back home to get his trailer while I got the tractor. The last I saw, this year's giant pumpkin was heading down the road to a new home.

I kept busy on Friday and never did find the time to play in the shop. It was laundry and house cleaning time. While the clothes were washing and when I wasn't running up and down the stairs to hang them in a closet, I was dusting or vacuuming the floors.

We love wood heat. It's comfortable and if one is cold, he simply needs to throw another log on the fire. Unfortunately, wood heat is dirty. Seems every time the door is opened, a small amount of ashes find their way out to float around the room. I guess with the money we save by not burning heating oil, we could hire a maid to dust and clean, but good help is so hard to find.

I made a quick dash into town to purchase a 4x8 sheet of luan, a thin, very lightweight, piece of sub-flooring to replace the roof and one wall on the ice shack.

Once home, I helped Ed load the pumpkin then moved the last of the large Hubbard winter squash from the barn into the garage so they can be carried downstairs today. Each weighs anywhere from twenty to fifty pounds so I'll carry one or two down the basement, do something else, then continue with one or two more. No sense killing myself in the name of giant winter squash.

Sargie had purchased a set of blinds to hang in the shop. Seems there's either not enough light or an over abundance. It's a damned if you/damned if you don't proposition.

I like the view from my recliner. If only I could keep my eyes open to enjoy it.
With this macular thing I've got going on, if there's too much light, all I see is a glare, much like trying to drive at night and looking through a smeared windshield. On the other hand, if there's not enough light, I see nothing. Hopefully, the blinds will help to regulate the light in the shop when the sun is shining directly through the window.

Sargie was home early last night and came walking through the door with a huge, family-sized, pizza. I could have kissed her on the lips! Oh wait, I did.

In a true oinker fashion, we demolished that all meat pizza, every single piece.

Sargie's off for the next two days. No doubt, we'll frolic and play, take a drive or two, and hopefully, have the opportunity to be slothful and lazy. We already have the gluttony part down pat.

I'm going to upload the blog then head out to the shop so Sargie can sleep. After several very long days of work and very short nights of slumber, maybe she can get caught up a bit. The girl's about all done in.

It's time to rock 'n roll, shake a leg, boogie on down the road, and make some hay while the sun shines.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Want to find Brutus during the days? One only needs to look along the south side of the barn. I'm pretty certain he's moved since I took a similar picture a few days ago.
