35 degrees/clear skies/windy
Pentoga Road
Let's take a moment to remember those who have or are serving our country today, including my oldest son, Josh, who is a Commander in the US Coast Guard and to Andy, who gave five years serving in the US Army. Thank you and God Bless America.
Brrr, I think Indian Summer migrated south and took the warm temperatures with it. Our forecast calls for a high of forty, which is normal. We've been spoiled this year and that's okay. I enjoyed being pampered in my old age.
After Thursday's walk, I arrived home to finish the current project and get the pieces bundled. I'll post pictures after the holidays.
The shop was a mess. I mean A MESS. There were pieces of scrap wood and sawdust everywhere.
It took almost two hours to sweep and vacuum, but as of now, it looks like someone's living room that is filled with machinery and tools.
The wind howled yesterday. At one point, I was distraught when I saw that the Packers Nation flag had been blown from it's holder and was lying on the ground.
I'll have to get the extension ladder and put it back up. The team may be down this season, but we're certainly not out of the running.
We've noticed that some plants being kept in the basement for the winter are turning somewhat pale and yellow. Two more grow lights were hung and both should remedy that situation.
It appears that Sargie's spikes are not only living, but are growing in the darker conditions. If they get much bigger, we'll have to make the stairway wider and the door larger to get them outside next spring.
I went to town to take advantage of the one day sale at our grocery. Every now and then, they run a special on milk, eggs, bread, and butter, all major food groups in our home.
Of course, no trip to town would be complete without a stop at the plant to see Yooper Brother Mark.
There are rows and rows of animal bedding, much of it used for laboratory animals, in the warehouse. |
Once home, I pulled the ice shack to the front of the barn and prepared to make it ready for another season of fishing. Old paneling was originally used for the siding and roof and I see that it is peeling off in places.
Hmmm. I'll have to go to the Habitat for Humanity store in town and scrounge around, see what they might have that I can use. The object of an ice shack is to be as light as possible and still keep the occupant warm. Thankfully, appearance and material are irrelevant.
What was left of the day was spent in the recliner, in the shop, being lazy. I caught up on a couple of Netflix programs that I'd started watching a few weeks ago and possibly, quite possibly, I might have dozed off.
Sargie didn't arrive home until late last night after closing. She's opening today, but thankfully, has the weekend off. With her hours, we've been meeting each other coming and going.
I'm going for my walk this morning then I might sneak into town to search for used material for the ice shack. I'm definitely going to play with the lathe and no doubt, will make some kindling for the wood stove. There're several projects to begin to give as Christmas presents, so the day is already full before it gets started.
Oh, and yeah, the recliner, the one that felt so comfortable yesterday afternoon? I may have to *wink* "catch up on a tv program" sometime this afternoon, probably right after lunch.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
