Tomatoes that were picked first thing Wednesday morning. They were later sliced and dehydrated. |

The rain total continues to mount with three inches having fallen in the past two days. Add to that the seven to eight inches that fell last month and I'd say we're doing pretty well.
I have to chuckle. Several years ago, after a three year drought, the water levels on our small state-owned lake at the end of the road fell significantly. Several of the home owners decided the lake association should finance the drilling of a well to fill the lake back to capacity.
There were multiple public hearings and stacks of needed permits and it was quite a hot topic for several years. In the end, as usual, big money won out and the well was drilled last year with the electricity for the pump and piping to the lake installed just a few weeks ago. I'm told that the permit stipulates that when lake levels drop to a certain level, the pump is activated, the opposite for when it's full.
Without any outside help other than from God, the lake has risen back to normal and continues to rise. In fact, it's the highest now that it's been in many years. Too bad big money can't buy patience and common sense as well as water.
I was in the garden first thing Wednesday morning picking tomatoes for the dehydrator. Most are very ripe with only a few days to go before many will be too far gone.
The current batch should be dried by noon today and I'll pick, slice, and fill the dehydrator again and keep doing so until all the tomatoes are finished. Sargie and I use the tomatoes for cooking or eating like potato chips. They are delicious either way.
I clicked off a three mile walk between rain showers. It feels good to get back into my regular routine.
The rest of the day was spent in the shop, mostly working on the frame/cabinet for the television.
Something so simple seems as though it ought to be easy to build, yet the television isn't exactly tiny and it has to hang on the wall. Needing access to the television causes the difficulty level to grow significantly. I've designed and redesigned the cabinet two or three times.
It appears that I'll go ahead and hang the television utilizing a commercial bracket then fit the cabinet around it using hinges on one side to swing it away from the wall to gain access to the interior. This is one of those projects that requires more brain power than carpentry skills and I have precious little of either.
It was past nine last night before Sargie arrived home. She opens today and thankfully, is off tomorrow. We are hoping to go fishing, but once again, rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast.
This is a five-mile day for walking. I'm planning on spending the rest of it as I did yesterday, putting up tomatoes and working in the shop. I'd say my chances of taking a mid afternoon nap are pretty good. It's what we do around here on rainy days.
After all, man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
