Grandson, Coleman, (3rd from the left, front row) was named practice player of the week on his peewee football team. Coleman is the starting middle linebacker for the galloping Mustangs.

Congratulations to Coleman for his accomplishments already in this early football season. Surely either he and/or Grady will play for the Packers so Grandpa and Yooper Brother Mark can finally get their heated box seats and season tickets in Lambeau Field someday.

Despite fair skies and no winds, rain is sitting just off to our west and is to come marching through in a bit.

After my five-mile walk Thursday morning, I played in the garden and cut one head of the tallest, multi-headed, sunflower to save the seeds for next year's planting.

These flowers are smaller, but were borne on a very tall stalk and had blooms almost halfway to the ground.

I hope next year's flowers will be larger and the base of each plant much thicker. I'm also going to save the seed from a giant, single headed, plant today. The head measures close to 19 inches across, but I can't tell as it's now warped. For certain, in its prime, it was a beauty. I've developed two distinct lines of sunflowers and I'd like to continue to improve each as the years go along.

The tomato slices in the dehydrator were finished Thursday morning so I removed those then went back to the garden to pick more.

Completely dehydrated. Twenty-four hours earlier, these slices touched each other.
It doesn't take long to wash the tomatoes and place the slices on the racks. I checked earlier this morning and after being in the dehydrator all night, yesterday's batch is done.

The remainder of the day was spent in the shop working on the television cabinet. I finally decided on a design that will allow the entire cabinet to swing away from the television that is mounted to the wall.

Hmm, how to mount a swinging cabinet over a television?
The cabinet is finished and the hinges attached.

A gap, covered by screen, was left on the top to allow any heat to escape.
All that needs to be done is to mount it.

Yeah, I know, the glass is dirty.
Sargie was home by mid evening and has today off. We spent some time walking around the yard and garden before dark, just talking and catching up on the day while popping chocolate cherry tomatoes in our mouths. Last night saw us chomping popcorn in front of the television. After a week of eating heavy leftovers, it felt good to enjoy something a bit lighter.

Sargie's off today. We had planned on going fishing, but it appears the rain will put a damper on that. No doubt, we'll take our ride and simply enjoy the day and each other.

I'm going to head out to the garden soon and pick more tomatoes. I noticed that a chipmunk or some other varmint is eating my good apples on the Macintosh tree in the back yard. I'm going to pick them today and they'll be stored in the garage or basement. I'll peel and dehydrate those fruits that we don't eat or use in the near future.

It's time to pour another cup of coffee, think deep thoughts, and listen to the news.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

The top head from this plant was harvested to be used as seed for next year.
