Ol' Bennet just turned four months old
June 6, 2016 - Monday
50 degrees/partly cloudy/breezy
Pentoga Road

I just turned on the electric fireplace in the dining room. Geesh, it's June 6th and we still occasionally need a bit of heat in the mornings, just enough to take the chill out of the air.

I thought today was supposed to be nice, but the forecast is calling for more showers. As soon as Sargie leaves for work, I'm going to get outside and make hay while the sun shines... literally.

We attended Grady's birthday party in Iron Mountain yesterday.

There were grandmas and grandpas, great grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles, friends, Romans, and countrymen present.

It was a very large gathering, complete with a couple of tents and enough toys for Grady to entertain all the munchkins the world over.

Sargie's son, Cale, came up from Green Bay and they got to talk for a bit.

The last we saw of Grady yesterday, he was looking like a very tired little boy who'd had a big day. I imagine he slept well last night.

We arrived back home towards late afternoon. I resumed working on the mower and managed to cut the front and back yards. I'm thinking I may buy a new rider and use the old one for the trails and meadows. It still works, but doesn't do as nice a job as I'd like in the yard around the house. It would be fine for the rougher areas.

The garden is doing well, it just needs some warm weather and sunshine.

One of the giant pumpkin plants. Those are giant sunflowers growing above it.
Everything is so lush and green. I can't imagine what the garden would do if we actually had a week of nice weather. The rhubarb is between waist and shoulder high.

I've let the remainder of the asparagus grow into ferns and if blossoms are any indication, we should have gallons and gallons of juicy strawberries beginning in the next week or two. My goal is to sugar and freeze forty gallons by season's end.

Hopefully, it will dry enough that I can begin to weed the flower beds and garden. Right now, it would be like plucking weeds from a rice paddy.

Sargie's back to work today. I'm going to replant some cucumbers and zucchini squash, neither of which had very successful germinations. They'll be late, but they should make.

Other than that, most of today's plans are dependent on the weather. At the very least, I'll begin to lay out the arch for the garden arbor in the shop and make ready to install it over the next few days. Then there are deep thoughts to think along with the possibility of a rainy day afternoon nap.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Isabella is ready to come visit Grandma and Grandpa Stauber next week. We're hoping Yooper Brother Mark and Sheri will be willing to share her every now and then!
