Deer anyone?
March 22, 2016 - Tuesday
28 degrees/snow/calm winds
Pentoga Road

Arg, I'm really running late. Both Sargie and I were wide awake at three this morning. We spent some time talking, laying on our backs side by side, looking up into the dark, and I remember thinking about getting up for the day. I'm glad I didn't. We both fell back into a deep sleep and didn't awaken until just before the alarm sounded.

My doctor's appointment in Iron Mountain went well Monday morning. Little Katie the Doctor (who looks twelve years old) changed the dosage of the blood pressure medication and it must be working. Last night's reading was down significantly from the morning's. By the way, Katie told me that I'm in great shape. That's a good thing to hear from two medical professionals in a relatively short period of time.

I spent a couple hours on Monday morning measuring and marking what will be the newest addition to the garden. I noticed a couple of new boulders have sprouted this spring, huge rocks that have been heaved upwards by the melting frost. Before I do much of anything, I'll have to get the backhoe and dig those out.

The area, 18x40 feet, will increase the garden size by two-thirds and allow me to grow more vine crops and flowers. I'll begin constructing the raised beds as soon as the weather turns a bit warmer and stays that way.

The white pipes show the area that will become garden.
I planted the rest of the flowers inside, Sweet Williams, Lavender, and Moss Rose. Seeing those seeds was a challenge. I hope I got them in the dirt!

The petunias are still sprouting and growing well.

The rest of the day was spent in the shop dabbling in dibbles.

I made two, one for larger seeds, beans and the like, and one that makes smaller holes for beets, parsnips, and more delicate seeds.

I've been trying to accommodate less than perfect sight with one gismo or the other. Last spring, I had the hardest time planting the seeds evenly in straight rows. With holes made by the dibbles, I hope to solve that problem.

It was late afternoon by the time I walked out of the shop. It was chilly, but sunny, so I strapped on the hiking boots and hoofed a five mile circuit that included our two area lakes. I hadn't been that way in sometime and it was nice to cover different ground.

The trail is the same that runs up the middle of our property and through what is now our back yard.

Sargie was home around 7 PM and we had a quiet evening.

She opens today, but thankfully, is scheduled to get off early. I'm going to walk my five miles then take my metal detector to Yooper Brother Mark. Seems they lost something in the mud at the plant and hope to find it. Otherwise, I think I'll work on a new design for a planter in the shop.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Having helped mark off the garden, then spend an afternoon making dibbles, Brutus was all done in by day's end.
