"Red in the morning, sailors take warning."
Judging from Tuesday morning's sunrise, we thought we were in for a big winter storm.

Carl the Weatherman really missed this storm, or lack of it. I just came back in the house after checking the roads to see if Sargie can make it to work. Four, maybe five, inches of light fluffy snow fell yesterday and last night. She could ride a bicycle to work and make it without difficulty.

The snow began mid afternoon and for a while, it appeared as though we would get hammered. At least I was hoping so, especially after calling Sargie and telling her to come home before conditions became too bad.

We both breathed big sighs of relief when she pulled into the barn. We hugged, laughed, and both of us exclaimed, "LET IT SNOW!"

It did, just not very much.

Wait and see. There's little doubt that we'll get our big storm, probably a week or two before gardening season is due to begin, when all we'll really want is sunshine and warm weather.

I walked my usual three miles Tuesday morning then drove to Crystal Falls to sign papers for the new car insurance. We ended up saving around $45 a month by switching companies.

The rest of the day was spent on the first strawberry pyramid. I finished cutting and attaching the baseboards and vertical support boards.

Where's Grady when I need him? Since there was no one to hold the long vertical boards while I cut them, I was forced to use clamps.

In the end, it all came out just fine.

I'm finding it takes almost two full days to complete what I was able to do in an hour or two just a year ago. Boy, I'm slow, but I don't want to be making too many mistakes by cutting on the wrong lines and let's face it, they all look alike. Then there are all those angles and that pesky tape measure to read. Oh well, it's getting done and time is something I have plenty of.

I'll begin cutting the horizontal boards today. That involves both bevel and angle cuts. No doubt, you'll be able to look in this direction and see blue smoke rising high in the sky. Probably ought to plug your ears while you're at it as you're liable to learn some new words.

Sargie's back to work today. I'm going to walk first thing then be in the shop the rest of the day. I enjoy turning on the heat, having music playing in the background, and doing whatever it is I do in there. Occasionally the recliner sitting in the corner calls my name and I'm forced to sit down, rest my eyes, and think deep thoughts... or take a nap.

But are we surprised? I think not.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

I hope Ivy continues to smile for the next hundred years or so!
