The letters for the new sign are finished. Now I start on the cutouts of Alaska and the Upper Peninsula. |
14 degrees/clear/calm
Pentoga Road
I think it's safe to assume that one can safely walk outside this morning without any fear of getting a mosquito bite. These temperatures are what we need for good, clear, solid, ice to form. I'm getting itchy for ice fishing season to arrive.
Thankfully, we missed all the snow that fell in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois yesterday. Had it been a week ago, we'd have stayed home and missed our visit to Mom's.
Saturday was a busy one on Pentoga Road. I walked my three miles then got busy working on the snowmobile. I'm not a quitter, but I am done with these machines. Now, there's no spark on either. I'll haul one to the mechanic's tomorrow and if it appears it will cost too much to get it going, I'll sell both and find an old one that still runs to replace them. I need something other than the four-wheeler to pull my ice shack.
The rest of the morning and part of the afternoon was spent in the shop working on the sign. All the letters have been cut out and are ready to mount when everything else is ready.
The boards on which the letters mount needs to be run through the jointer, glued, and clamped. I may make matters even simpler and purchase new 1x6 lumber and start new.
The remnants of the old letters were pried off and I started sanding the states. The UP is looking pretty good, but Alaska has a LONG way to go.
Both are made from a large scrap of redwood that I found when I bought this place. The wood cleans up beautifully.
The rest of Saturday was spent doing laundry and cleaning. After Sargie and I carried it upstairs before she went to work, I moved the cedar chest to the spare room where it's now resting in its new temporary place. We're still not sure of its permanent home.
Sargie's off today. I'm going to watch the Packer/Viking's game. Hopefully, it will be a good one. Green Bay has played pathetically for the past three weeks and slid into second place in their division. For a team that was to go to the Super Bowl this year, they've become a poor imitation of what they once were. I'm looking for them to rediscover their mojo today and make a victorious run for the Super Bowl.
With that being said, it's time to don my Packer's jersey and think about my afternoon armchair coaching strategies.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
Jerad's trying a new hunting technique at deer camp. It's one where he pretends to sleep and waits for the deer to jump into the bed with him, then wrestles the critter into submission. |
