September 6, 2015 - Sunday morning
71 degrees/hazy/very humid
Pentoga Road

I'm up early this morning and have put the frozen bluegill and crappie filets in the sink to thaw. The large lake trout were taken out of the freezer last night and even after eight hours, are still partially frozen. They'll be ready for the grill by this afternoon. We're in good shape.... I think.

I want to start out by wishing Mississippi Brother Garry and his beautiful bride, Jody, a happy 50th wedding anniversary. Though the actual date was earlier this year, their children are having a large reception for them in Laurel, Mississippi, this afternoon. I wish we could be there, but we're planning on going to visit sometime this winter and the four of us will celebrate then. Have a fun day, kids. We love you both.

I think we're about ready for the annual Mighty Milligan Family Labor Day Celebration. Sargie rubbed all her secret herbs and spices on the pork loin yesterday, wrapped it in plastic wrap, and placed the whole thing in the refrigerator to sit overnight.

I'll start the smoker in a little while and after I wrap the loin in over a pound of bacon, I'll begin the slow process of smoking and cooking that bad boy. I'm trying to time everything so we can eat around 2 this afternoon.

Saturday was spent working around the house. I did get the floors swept and laminate flooring steamed, then after, jumped on the mower and spent the rest of the day mowing and trimming.

After I'm finished writing, I'll be sweeping off the deck, pressure washing the floor in the garage and barn, and setting up the smoker and fryer. There's a possibility of rain and thunderstorms this afternoon, so I want to be sure there's room undercover where people can visit.

Sargie and I made a trip into town yesterday afternoon to get the brats we ordered, four packages of them, so there ought to be something for everyone: fried fish, grilled trout, grilled bratwursts, and smoked pork loin. If anyone goes hungry, it's their own fault. Sister-in-law Holly, is bringing her (now) famous zucchini chocolate cake and I'm planning on making that my major food group this afternoon. Heck with everyone else. They can eat meat and all the other fixings folks are bringing.

Niece Ashley is bringing their bulldog, Jordy, (named after the Green Bay Packers wide receiver, Jordy Nelson) so even Brutus will have a friend to play with. Doesn't every gathering need two big bulldogs?

So with that, I need to get moving. Plus, it's time to feed the pumpkin. I don't want him so hungry that he reaches out and gobbles down Brielle, Marley, or Aubrey, although I am trying to get it over 500 pounds in the next week or so. Hmmmm, a deep thought just popped into my head. JUST KIDDING.

Time to sweep the patio. After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tale from Pentoga Road...
