Over head, on top of the new shop. The floor of the "attic" should be finished on Wednesday. |
64 degrees/hazy/calm winds
Pentoga Road
There's not a lot to talk about today other than to say it's hot. This end-of-the-summer heat wave is for the birds. The thermometer crawled into the mid-80's yesterday and according to Carl the Weatherman, the next several days are to be the same, only a bit warmer.
Northerners aren't built to live in heat, the same as Southerners don't tolerate bitter cold very well. Our genes aren't built that way. It's coded in our DNA. It's the North/South thing. I'm all for packing up this hot weather, throwing in a few million illegal immigrants, and sending both back to where they belong.
It was pleasant walking early yesterday morning. The three miles quickly passed under my feet and I was back home in no time.
Another 4x8 sheet of OSB (particle board) needed to be nailed so I could move that which has been stored on the rafters of the barn onto the attic floor of the shop.
It was hot and dirty work, but I finally nailed down three sheets of OSB, then moved everything from one set of rafters to another and the old planks used for flooring were removed.
I was out of 4x8 sheets and it was getting entirely too hot to work high in the steel pole barn. Operations were moved back onto ground level where I began working on the 4x8 service door for the shop.
Failing to have someone other than the bulldog to steady the board I'm cutting, I simply use a fifty lb cement block. |
The rest of the afternoon was spent indoors enjoying the air conditioning. I ate lunch, took a short nap, watched the end of a movie, and cleaned and swept all the downstairs floors. In fact, the only outside activity for the rest of the day was to move the hose and irrigate the "regular" pumpkins, those the little ones carve for Halloween. There are several that are in the forty-pound range and I'd like to take advantage of this hot weather for them to grow as large as possible.
Sargie wasn't home until late last night. She not only opened the Vision Center, she also closed it, making for a very long day. We had leftovers for supper and were in bed soon after.
Sargie's off today and I imagine she'll begin preparations for Sunday's Mighty Milligan Labor Day Family Gathering. We're hosting it this year and both Sargie and I are looking forward to sharing our home with the family.
I'm going to walk as soon as this is finished, then begin working in the shop. I want to get as much done as possible before the heat of the day arrives.
So with that said, it's time to strap on my shoes and go for a stroll.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
Before the morning was over, it felt as though I'd moved and used every power tool I've ever owned out on the drive. |
