The service door was completed on Tuesday

And the heat wave continues on... and on... and on....

I was up and at 'em early Tuesday morning. Wanting to get my walk done before the temperatures got out of hand, I hoofed up and down the road and got that out of the way.

Sargie spent the day working around the house, including taking advantage of the good drying conditions by doing laundry.

We lucked out for a couple of hours in the morning. The skies remained overcast and with a bit of a breeze, working on the shop wasn't nearly as bad as it had been the day before.

The first chore was to calculate how best to salvage some lumber that I'd cut wrong the day before. In the end, it all was used.

I'd thought the service door might take two hours, possibly half a day. Boy, did I think wrong. By the time it was finished, I'd dedicated almost two days to the double door.

The two, two-foot, doors close in the middle on each other with one two-by-four overlapping the other by an inch to prevent any cold air from leaking into the shop.

The temperature was in the upper 80's and we decided to go to town and get another load of OSB particle board, stop for some homemade brats, grab a couple of Cokes, and come home and sit in the air conditioning.

We watched television for a couple of hours. Well, I might have closed my eyes during that time or else it was a mighty short movie.

Sargie was helping me unload the OSB from the trailer when she made the suggestion that we ought to go fishing. She didn't have to say it twice.

Action was slow at first, but as the sun sank lower in the west, fishing picked up.

Sargie has a big ol' buck bluegill on the other end of her line
We caught several decent fish in the minutes before the sun went down, enough to bring home and clean. The filets will be added to those eaten during Sunday's Mighty Milligan Family fish fry.

The sunset last night was spectacular. Sargie took several pictures, all of which are worthy of framing.

Sargie closes tonight, another late one for her. I think I'll skip walking this morning and get started hoisting 4x8 sheets of OSB overhead before it gets too hot. Once that's done, I'll be able to get a lot of smaller things off the floor of the barn and have more room to maneuver in preparation for the final push to get the shop finished.

As of now, I'm planning to go to Iron Mountain Thursday afternoon and purchase what electrical supplies I need from Home Depot and spend Friday running wiring and installing junction boxes, lights, and outlets. The insulation will be purchased early next week after which the walls and ceiling coverings will be nailed.

It's time to feed the pumpkin. So far/so good with the hungry beast. I keep expecting to walk out to the garden some morning and find it split open or see some evidence of rot. Other than the split vine/stem, it appears healthy and after all, everyone knows that a healthy pumpkin is a happy pumpkin. That's a great line, whatever it means.

Enough. Time to get busy. One thing that's not a line, just pure and simple fact:

A man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
