Other than trim and a coat of paint, the ceiling in the shop is finished
September 17, 2015 - Thursday

Pentoga Road

I can't believe I slept until 7:30 this morning. That's the equivalent of sleeping until noon for most. I didn't know I was that tired, but as Mom says, I must have needed it.

I'm having a hard time concentrating this morning. Grady and Brutus both seem to think they should be helping. It's like writing with Laurel and Hardy in the same room.

The ceiling of the shop was finally finished on Wednesday. The end pieces took longer than expected. It seems, anymore, that anything in the construction line takes me forever.

But the real challenge was installing and wiring the overhead fan.

I don't see colors very well unless an area is well lit.

In the end, I had to bring the computer out to the shop, take pictures as I progressed, download, and magnify each, then progress from there.

You can imagine how happy I was when I flicked on the switch and everything worked! Other than the trim and a coat of white paint, I have pronounced the ceiling finished!

It was past noon. I took a peek in the refrigerator to see what leftovers were available for a celebration lunch; mashed potatoes, gravy, bread... some bacon. I went out to the garden, found an onion, chopped it up, and in the end, had a gravy casserole!

I'm pretty certain there are some food groups in there.
Tragedy struck Wednesday afternoon. It was breezy, sometimes windy, and one gust caught the tomato trellis alongside the barn, bringing the entire thing down.

I was going to put the trellis back until I attempted to lift it. With the heavy plants and fruits, it must have weighed well over 200 pounds. The trellis was removed and we'll eat the black cherry tomatoes until the plants die as they lay, probably sooner than later.

A popple pole had broken in the deer fence and needed to be replaced with a treated landscape post. I've purchased replacements for all and hope to complete the entire fence before snow falls.

The little blue four-wheeler is running rough. I drained the tank and replaced the gas, but that didn't help. I'll pick up a new spark plug today. If that doesn't help, I'll need to clean the carburetor. It's always something.

I've begun planning for next year's garden and washed and spread cantaloupe seeds to dry on waxed paper.

There were still a couple of hours before Sargie was due home. I hopped on the mower and sheared the lawn as it's still growing like it's the middle of June. I don't hear too many people complaining. Every day of warmth we experience is one less of winter.

Sargie was home later last night with Grady in tow. We alternated watching the Republican debates with the finale of America's Got Talent. In the end, we felt the right people won both.

Today will be a mixed bag of activity. We have a lawyer's appointment later this morning. I need to purchase a spark plug for the four-wheeler and no doubt, Sargie will want to shop at the one-day sale at our local grocery store. Later, we'll hook up the trailer and head to Iron Mountain for the Grady exchange. While there, I want to purchase the needed lumber to finish the shop.

Oops, I just slopped coffee down the front of my t-shirt. Guess I ought to change it before we go anywhere. I'm not surprised.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
