Brutus feels he should be at my side, but there's simply no room for both of us at the top of a ladder. He's got better eyes, but his carpentry skills leave something to be desired. |

Pentoga Road
According to Carl the Weatherman, the end of this late-summer heat is in sight. It certainly was warm enough yesterday.
I skipped walking and immediately started installing the last of the ceiling insulation Tuesday morning.
Everything had gone so smoothly on Monday that I assumed the same would be true yesterday. The insulation went up without a problem.
Seems there's a lot of interest in the preacher, the "T" that allows one to hang material overhead by himself. The concept has been around for many years and I've witnessed sheet rock installers utilize them much as they would an extra helper.
I'm not nearly as smooth as the guys who know what they are doing. In fact, catastrophe struck twice yesterday when I had a 4x8 sheet balanced overhead and was just about to begin fastening it to the rafters. I either bumped the preacher, or it fell over on it's own, and the sheet came tumbling down. Once it even thunked me on the back of the head.
The biggest frustration of working overhead yesterday was keeping the sweat out of my eyes. I finally quit in the early afternoon, went to the garden and cooled off in the shade, then resumed work when the temperatures weren't so hot.
In the end, the ceiling insulation and large pieces were installed. I'll paint it white to reflect the light, but that can wait until the shop is finished and other outside jobs completed. Despite our warm temperatures, cold weather and snow isn't that far away.
I need to trim it out, but otherwise, once the end pieces are on, we'll call the ceiling "good 'nuff." |
Sargie closed last night and didn't arrive home until later in the evening. I was completely exhausted and was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
I want to finish the end pieces overhead this morning and install the ceiling fan. It's one of two that we found on clearance over a year ago for $10 each at Menards. At the time, I told Sargie I was going to put one in my future shop. No time like the present.
Depending on the weather, I hope to continue putting in the wall insulation today, at least put a big dent in that job. After doing the ceiling, it should be mere child's play. The yard needs mowing and hopefully, I'll get to that.
Sargie opens this morning, but has the next four days off. She'll be bringing Grady home with her tonight to stay with us on Thursday. I hope he eats his Cheerios and feels strong as there are 4x8 sheets of particle board to put on the walls.
At the ripe old age of one-and-a-half, it's time he learns the truth, that a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
One of my biggest joys... relaxing in the garden and eating a vine ripened tomato much as one would an apple. |
