The cucumber vines are growing up and over their trellis.
August 7, 2015 - Friday
60 degrees/calm/light rain
Pentoga Road

This would be the perfect morning to have slept in. Light rain hitting the metal roof overhead, a heavy overcast keeping the skies dark and gloomy, a slight breeze, cool temperatures... Meanwhile, back to reality.

I worked all day Thursday on the patio/walk. Thirty-six bags of concrete have been mixed by hand in the past two days and I don't mind saying, I'm grateful to be at the end of this project.

Once again, I'll let the pictures do the talking.

What happens when you forget to put the gloves on before adding dye
Several more pavers were initially poured to use later as trim or to replace some of those that might have cracked or dried less than perfect.
It was time to give my back a break. I hopped on the four-wheeler and made a quick trip to town for a few groceries. It was the perfect day to ride, sunny and in the mid-70's.

The masonry wheel was put on the angle grinder when I got home and I started measuring and cutting individual pavers to trim out the patio.

I finally quit around 5 last night. There's still one side of the patio to trim and then I'll fill all the gaps between the pavers with sand and call it good enough.

I enjoy doing this kind of work, but if I were going to do it more than occasionally, I'd buy a small electric mixer. Mixing thirty-six wheelbarrow loads by hand with a hoe isn't my idea of fun.

I ended the day in the garden. With last week's rain and the latest sunny days and warm temperatures, everything has gotten a growing spurt.

Sargie was home early last night. We ate leftovers and watched the debates on television. One thing to be said, I like the variety of candidates; kind of like Baskin Robbins Ice Cream. There's a flavor for everyone.

Sargie closes tonight. I'm going spend the day in the kitchen making bread and butter pickles.

Meanwhile, it's time to grab another cup of coffee and go into my pickle-planning mode of deep thinking. It's not always pretty, but someone has to do it.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
